Default ls1 mustang... headers?

what long tube headers will fit on an ls1 in an 89 mustang? i know the 351's will fit if you put the ls1 flanges on em but will a set of ls1 headers fit?

In my experience the MAC mid's did not fit. I used the AJE SBC swap K and the headers interfered directly with the steering shaft.

Madman said he used a three joint steering shaft but they used a different K so that makes a difference...we tried the three joint idea with the AJE K and the angles were just too steep for the joints to work properly. I ended up having a guy retool some f-body Pacesetters:

Sorry for the hijack but pics speak louder than text!

I am in the same boat as you. I have it a little easier though. I am using a motor plate instead of motor mounts. Therefore the only thing that could get in my way is the steering shaft. I am hoping that I can find a set of LS1 headers that I can slightly modify to fit, instead of spending big bucks on some 351 headers and having to completely replace the flanges.

I will keep everyone updated on my progress. I am in the process of selling my house right now though, so things are moving quite slow.

Thanks,

Chris

One reminder, the f-body Pacesetters are too short to properly clear the fox body floor-pan, they just barely make contact and prevent the flanges from lining up with the exhaust ports...on both sides. Also the driver side header collector points away from the tranny, further hitting the frame rail.

How about a C5 header? They tuck pretty closely to the motor and go pretty straight towards the rear of the car. Or would a C5 header hit the f-body oil pan and/or the th400 tranny?

i think the best bet would be some GTO or truck headers

Get a welder and make 'em fit.

I used cheap Summit Racing 302 Ford specials, and rerouted one tube per side.

They're a GM part, you can pick 'em up at any dealer.
