Lots of places seem to sell a harness now, but John (Speartech) has been doing them from the get-go. We sent him ours, and have never once heard (or read) anyone say anything that wasn't positive about his work.
Make your own? I made one for my 3rd gen swap from a 2002 Silverado 4wd. Just go wire by wire and delete those you dont want/need. Lots of info on this board. The harness itself was 100$ from a local junkyard, so I guess I saved 600$+. 
wiring harness go to the parts wanted section on our forums and throw up a post. I bought my harness on here for $260 in great shape and i plan to edit it myself. with wiring, just be patient and don't rush.

I built my own also. A friend of mine built one off of my idea, they put a LS1 into a 1994 Camaro, and it starts and runs. I am building something a little more different, so I had to do a little bit more custom work. I started with a 1999 LS1 Harness & 2002 PCM, all for $260, and I put in LS2 Injector Connections, Z06 85mm MAF, and some other custom things.
