Need an opinion Im doing a cammed 5.3 into a 96 s10 SS. I will have headers, full exhaust, 216/220 cam, tune, and cold air intake. I was wondering what tranny you guys would think would be the better one. 4l60e, or 4l80e? I was going to go with the 60-e and my dad went hunted me one down so i thought. Well the guy he went to is a good friend of ours and ended getting me the 80-e. So which should I go with?
The 4L80e is a very heavy and large trans. It also does take a bit more HP/TQ to turn it. With a lighter truck as your S10.. and depending on how much HP you have.. I think a 4L60e would be better suited (built up a bit would be a good thing).
You might check some of the other poeple on the forum as to the Trans Tunnel and ask if they needed to modify the Tunnel or not (cutting or using a BFH).

Well I just found out that im stuck with the 4l80e. Im just building a DD/street toy. I got a good deal on it. Rebuilt with shift kit for 800 bucks. I might just have to add some more power adders I guess. LOL

Don't even think about using a 60E in place of your 80E. Go read up on the automatic tranny section and see the issues the 60E has in high power applications. You may lose a tenth or two in the 1/4, but you will never break it...
