Dropped the gas tank today, got the old fuel lines off, and mocked up the transmission cooler radiator and fans. Got a lot done. I'm out of money now though, so I have what I have. We're also looking at fuel system fittings too.

Havent posted in a while. No updates. between vacation, a car wreck, a new car, the el camino project, school, work, and room mates ditching me leaving me without a home, its come to a standstill. I'm gonna go look at the car for the first time in about 10 days tommarow. probably wont get much done, blew the deadline for start up.

We have the fuel system plotted out and I orderd the intake stuff today. Another 2 weeks hopefully. I got to drive a 2000 Corvette on vacation. It was pretty cool. Hope the camino feels just as cool.

Looks great. A post I made on converting Elkies to FI may be helpful to you:

I also modified the original fuel sender by strapping a Walbro 255lph pump on and adding a return line.

See my swap page for more details. Also look at the El Camino Central LT1 / LS1 forum.

Gas tank is back in the car and the fuel system is done, I'll post some picks of it later. I'm not estatic about it but it should work. Just plumbing the radiator and intake hoses now, then its some more wiring.

Can someone point me to a wire I need? It needs to go from the DCL to my laptop so I can monitor it with HP tuners. THanks

You need 3 wires, a constant battery power wire, Ground(this splits into 2 and goes to 2 pins on the OBDII connector) and the serial data wire from the PCM.

It is at connector 230 pin K.

All right, everything is bolted in. radiator, intake, engine, trans, fuel tank, fuel system. We start wiring this week for real. We are gonna pull relay boxes and stuff from some cars we have in the back. Hopfully it will get off the jack stands in the next few days. Once it fires up we can check for leaks. tighten everything again to make sure and then head over to autozone to get it scanned for codes. Then if all checks out I should have some vids for you all.

If anyone is still looking at this thread, my donor engine has'nt run for at least 6-7 months. What possible problems am I looking at in the injectors? Gummed up for sure? How to fix it?

I'm just gonna put some injector cleaner in the first few gallons and fire it up when the time comes. Any better idea's?

UPDATES!

Here is my dash and my fuel pressure gauge mounted.

Here are some intake and radiator shots.

The silver piece in the top radiator hose is our block for the steam pipe and temp gauge, here is a shot from under the car looking at the bottom where the steam pipe is connected.

An overall shot.

Nice work. What fan is that? A universal 31" x 19" aluminum radiator will fit if you ever need to change the radiator. You have to use the '78-'79 upper radiator hose though, E70935, it's a larger diameter. I have Dodge Intrepid fans on my '80.

They are LS1 fans from a 2000 camaro.

We turned the motor over at 6:45 pm today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We got oil at the filter and oil at the pressure sensor, all good.

We dont really know how much pressure we have because we are using the LS1 sensor with the 1980 factory gauge, but it does show pressure so we are assuming its all good. No wierd noises while cranking it. Tommarrow we will finish up the OBD-II wiring and test the fuel pump, flush the fuel lines. Then we should be good to go, should be firing it up for real tommarrow or saturday.

Cant wait!!!!!

We fired it up. Sounds good. We have oil pressure (again not sure how much but its there), we have 13 volts, we have 60 PSI fuel pressure, and it settled down to idle at 650 RPM on the nose.

Again no leaks, not even an exhaust leak. the fans kicked on. and best of all the radio still works. lol

we do have one problem. The fuel pump wants to stay on all the time. Our pump is running through a relay, the relay is hooked to constant power and we think it is wired right but we have yet to check all the wires out.

What we surmise is that computer is constantly grounding the relay kicking it on. We worked on the assumption that the fuel signal from the computer was going to ground it. Can someone confirm this? I am going to call my wiring company tomarrow.

Again THANK you all so much.
