Default My LS1 swap is COMPLETE...well..almost

So i just yesterday fired up my LS1 that i swapped into my 95 Z28....

Lemme tell ya what! It's a heck of a difference from that ol LT1!!!!

Took me about 6 days to strip down a 99 Z28 to complete bare metal(car was wrecked), pull my LT1 and install the LS1 into he 95 Z28....

And boy am i tired. !!! lol!

But it was well worth it.

Swapped out the whole k-member assembly. Had a few problems once we got the thing bolted in, but i was able to work around them...

Problem 1. The transmission crossmember didn't line up with the bolt holes. Had to use the LT1 crossmember...and even IT didn't line up! SO, we bought one of the universal Energy Suspension mounts with the 3 holes in it and my dad made up a plate to adapt the mount to the crossmember....

Problem 2. The brake lines were nowhere close to mating up to the abs unit....lol! So i bent the crap outta the lines to make em work..i was going to use some flex tubing, but no one in town had any.... Flex tubing would have been way easier...

Problem 3. i went to start up the engine....and it cranked over....but NO fuel pressure!!! It would seem that the tank has to be plugged into the harness to get the power it needs!!! LOL!

Kinks that need worked out
1. Fuel Level gauge is spiked out all the time....
2. tach doesn't work.
3. low oil level light is on (accidentally pulled the wires out of the sensor...lol)
4. A/C doesn't work because nearly everything about the LS1 A/C is different from the LT1....
5. When shifting into drive, it hits REAL hard....not sure if that's good or bad..LOL!
6. I'm sure there's other kinks too...just haven't noticed them yet...

I think i may write up a swap faq for those interested in doing the swap them selves....

And i need to clean up my wiring mess under the hood! lol!
Pics to come later today!!! maybe...lol!

6 DAYS!!!! That alone deserves a medal. We will forgive a little ratsnest in the wiring if you promise to clean it up someday. I believe there are several poeple working out the LT1 to LS1 issue with the gauges. Make sure you have the right trans fluid, and that you have the right amount. ALso, make sure the cables are adjusted correctly. Get som epics up soon....

All the cables and such are hooked up, with the exception of the cruise control cable...i didn't feel like swapping that one out...i don't really need cruise anyway...lol!

oh and 2 of those 6 days was stripping down the 99 to frame/body....

and i just realized...another kink i gotta fix...the front wheel speed sensor wires are about a foot short....so i gotta grab some connectors and extend them....and i definitely have to clean up the engine bay...i got a show to go to on saturday!!! yay!

and i need to get a program to wipe out the codes on the EGR and such...

but hey..the son of a gun runs!!! yay!

I ran into the same problem with the trans mount as well

I went from a lt1 t56 to a ls1 4l60

I tried every lt1 and ls1 auto/manual mount before we had to just modify my stock one which ended up working perfectly.

I'm almost finished except for some wiring and the tranny crossmember issue. I'm waiting for Blahster's paperwork too.

Awsoem job. 6 days is unreal.

your gas gauge is spiked because the LS1 fuel sending unit will not work with the LT1 fuel gauge. Easier to use the LT1 tank and install a fuel press reg.

Although I used the LS1 fuel lines in my swap I used my old LT1 front and rear brake lines to avoid the problems you had.

Had i been thinking about it, i would have used those brake lines...eh. oh well.
now i know. and for future swaps...(not likely)...i will definitely be looking at doing that stuff.... and if i had had more time...i definitely would have gone into WAY more detail with everything...

as far as the fuel guage...the fuel sender definitely reads way higher than the LS1 gauge...which is why i decided to go ahead and get the autometer programmable gauge... it's nice.

Thanks for all the positive feedback...

As far as brake lines, I just bent all new stainless hard lines. I used a PA Tubular K-member so the lines from the LT1 weren't even close! I went to NAPA and picked up about 10 feet of line, a bender, and a cutter and went to town. Turned out nice.

Once i transfer from japan this coming november, i plan on doing a whole lot more tweaking and completing of the swap...i got all the interior, dash, etc that i might swap in. I definitely need the console...and i may make up a custom dash with all aftermarket gauges...might even do some weight reduction stuff.

i was thinkin about swapping out the A/C system...but that seems to be more work than its worth...but i mean...it IS a/c...lol. Virginia does tend to get a bit warm in the summer....I will be sure to keep everyone posted on the progress....and again...a guide IS coming soon...it's 75% done...
