Default Will I be throwing CELs?

just curious - as i may have mentioned elsewhere, i just bought elec temp and oil pressure gauges from Autometer (Phantom II, i think?) and wanted to use them with my build.

i guess these gauges can't take the serial data from the PCM though, so i am curious - if i just go buy the Autometer sending unit for water temp and oil pressure, and put them in place of the factory sending units:

a) will the PCM throw a CEL if it cannot see the stock oil press/water temp senders?

b) are those two senders important to actual engine function or the PCM, realistically?

c) is there some other solution i am missing here, i.e. a way to convert the serial data from the PCM into something readable by the autometer gauges.

the passngers side rear of the head is already being used for a manual water temp gauge, which i may remove later...i'm looking for a solution in the meantime.

I don`t think the PCM will throw a CEL if it is missing the oil pressure sensor, and even if it does the code could be easily programmed out. I know I am not running the stock sensor, but I don`t know if my tuner had to program it out or not.

If it is missing the temp sensor it will throw a code, I took a quick look at the codes and there are at least 3 that pertain to the temp sensor. I think that removing the temp sensor will affect the way the engine runs because I believe the PCM adjusts the fuel mixture and spark advance tables based on the temp sensor readings.

I`m not really sure how to help on adapting the serial data signal, I have not heard of any conversion boxes yet.

Maybe I'll just ditch the analog gauges and make way for a digital sender for water (back passenger side), and nuke the oil pressure sender? Meh, I really didn't want to drain coolant from the heads again!

pfffft drain coolant the heck with that just change the sender really fast. Actually that is what I did, I cut the sender down after I already had the car running and I was too lazy to drain the coolant. I let the pressure out of the radiator, got under the car and unscrewed the plug. As I pulled the plug out I slid my finger over the hole and then pushed my finger aside with the new sending unit. I ended up loosing less than a cup of coolant, and didn`t even get wet (well except a couple of fingers).
