Unhappy LS1 Plug wires with headers....

Started a new thread on this question.

Does anyone make decent wires that fit an LS1 with headers? We looked at many, and they all have a long straight boot at the spark plug end. We bought some of the Crane wires to try, and they hit three tubes.

The passenger side hits HARD into the tube on the number 6.

The driver side touches two tubes.

We would like to see some pics of what everyone else is getting away with, what brand, and part numbers if you have them. We don't feel confident using these wires, even if they are rated for 1200 degrees....

MSD wires have straight boots that can be bent anyway you need them. I had the same problems with me headers. Also Taylor wires have a 90 deg boot that my buddy used with those same headers and he had lot's of wire clearance. I would go with the Taylors in black if I were you.

ive never had the stock wires off to look at them, but are both ends of the stock wires normal connectors? i have an extra set of good wires layin around (i know the stockers are fine...) from an old project thats gone now. could i cut them and use the ends that came with the wires, or is there somebody that makes the crimp on ends for custom wires?

sorry for the , but this seemed like a good thread to ask in...

I looked at a 2006 Vette, he had red 90 degree boots on the plug end. The owner wasn't there to ask if original or not. I have similar problem on one wire that runs straight into my steering shaft. Was going to check parts at Chevy dealer but haven't had time.

All you need is some spark plug boot protectors.

You should be able to pick some up at your local auto parts store. They are basically a woven kevlar sleeve that you slide over the plug boot to protect it. The sleeve can contact the headers directly (touching) without a problem.

I have them on my car with headers and they work very well. Also much cheaper than buying a set of new plug wires just to clear the primaries.

Autozone sells them. They are made by accel and are very reasonable. Like $35 for 8 of them. I have them on my plug boots, and probably 3 of my boots are hard pressed against my header tube. I recently took them off and there was no melting of the boot, and not burning of the sleeve. Im using them to insulate my clutch hydro line as well.

We know that we can always use a heat boot, but would really prefer a solution that fits correctly if possible. This isn't daily driver, but will eventually become my wifes display car. While heat socks work well, they are not terribly attractive. The wires we bought are rated for 1200 degrees, and probably would work just fine as it is, but they do not fit properly, and it will drive us nuts.

Could you just put new boots/terminals on the wires you already have?

That would be the boots I saw on the 2006 Vette. Probably pricey from Chevy dealer though.
