Default Think these might be good headers for a conversion?

So in the process of gethering parts for the LSx swap in my 68 Chevelle, I came across these headers.

In theory these could be constructed within the same confines of the stock manifold, and I know there are A-body guys out there running stock manifolds. In saying that, would you think these would fit?

These would be a cheaper option here...

Anyone out there running truck shorties on their conversion? I've read on one person unsing stock f-body headers that they had to "massage"...

Those would probably fit moderately better than the stock F-body manifolds. However, they definitely wouldn't make any more power.

Do you not have enough clearance for long tubes?

I dont know if I have clearance or not, I assume I might, but I just can't see spending $650 on the hooker engine swap headers.

Has anybody used (with success) an F-body long tube? There is certainly a lot of used headers around from Camaro/Firebirds and I would rather have used for 1/2 or 1/3 the price of the hookers. Wouldn't even mind doing some light modifications.

I used Pacesetter race-style (no emissions fittings) long tubes on my '71 Camaro. We had to cut off, re-angle, and reweld the driver's side collector, otherwise they fit fine. You might get a set and test-fit them, and return them if they won't work.

$285 from Summit, painted:

How hard of a job is it to reweld the driver's collector? I want to go longtube but I know the collector on that side is a problem with my truck's frame.

I had a friend with a shop and welder do it - he's fairly handy with a welder, and it took him maybe two hours, including cutting and rerouting two primary tubes to clear a C5 Corvette style oil pan, which you wouldn't need to do if you're not using that pan.

If you're not a confident welder (like me) you could just cut off the collector, put it back on at the angle you want, and tack it in place or even use duct tape, then take it down to an exhaust shop and have them do the rest of the job.

I just spent $600 on coated hooker swap headers and had to cut a primary tube and reposision it for the steering shaft other than that big pain in the a$$ they fit prety good in a 67 gto.
