Fuel Pump Question

Fuel Pump Question Speed Inc. told me I needed a sump to run an external pump.
My tank is not setup to accomidate an internal pump. Does
anyone out there know of an external pump I can use that
doesn't need a sump? Is it just a question of priming it?

Re: Fuel Pump Question I am using an inline pump, high volume/pressure walbro type. I am violating all recommendations. No sump, pump mounted higher than the tank, etc. Once the pump is primed, it is no longer an issue. My car runs excellent. I do not race around tracks to worry about fuel slosh/starvation. I do drag race, but have not yet with this motor. We shall see. Worst comes to worst, I will make sure I have a half of tank of gas.

Re: Fuel Pump Question Great, I was going to try it but wondered if I would fail. Besides hacking up my tank at this point would be a real hassle. I was looking at the 255 LPH external and adjustable regulator from Speed Inc. I'll try it, if it fails then I'll drop the tank. Thanks for the reply.

Re: Fuel Pump Question From everthing I read before I done my 406 efi 67 nova, an inline pump is very efficent at pushing but not at pulling, that is why a pump mounted lower than the tank and being gravity feed the pumps worked well and would last the normal life span. When a pump has to pull for fuel everytime you turn the switch on this shortens the life of the pump to (what I have read on this subject even if only for an instance) normally less than a year. I can't say for sure from experience but I cut a new tank apart, put a baffle and in-tank pump in. This was 2 years and 9000 miles ago with no problems. My latest project a 79 elcamino, LS1,4L60E trans. was done the same way, engine started immediately but have about a month,s worth of restoring left,but am really anxious to try it out.

Re: Fuel Pump Question Well, before the LS1 install, I ran a Holley Pro Jection system on my big block with its external inline pump mounted in the same spot above my tank. That system ran for the last 4 years without failure. That pump only put out 15 psi, but pressure shouldn't matter.
