While that really is a good price, I think you will spend more than you think buying everything it doesn't have. Harness, PCM, Sensors, it all adds up fast. Dollar wise, you would be way ahead buying a complete pull-out with everything. You may find a good deal on a unit with a trans as well. Then you can sell off the trans to help offset some of your costs. I still don't know much about mating an older trans to the LS/LQ/LM series, but people on the site have done it. I don't know how much room you will have in the tunnel for a T56, but if you can get an LS1 with a T56, you will definately enjoy the double overdrive. We just got 26.6mpg on a trip to a car show. For dollar reference, we got our 2002 LS1/T56 for $3900 off ebay. This included reprogramming the PCM. Get the driveshaft from the donor so you don't have to buy a new yoke! Good luck on your vette!

what is your budget for engine and trans. The LS1/T56 package has become very affordable. For $3500 you can get a low mileage Engine and trans to your door. Be very careful of incomplete engine and trans deals. They might sound attractive but buying those missing parts will add up. eg. buying an engine without accessories can prove costly ang trying to get all the bolts needed will get annoying.
Go to www.car-part.com and search for an engine and trans. Call around and haggle.make sure you get a deal as complete as possible.

Thanks Good advice on the engine. I'm in no hurry at this time. I have to move all my toys from AZ to CT by the end of summer. So I won't start work until later this year. According to a thread on the corvette forum, the T-56 will fit in the '73 vette w/ no mod to shifter location and only moving the cross member. JEGS makes a motor mount adapter for the conversion.
You sure about that? I thought that in the vette applications you had to move the shifter up to the inspection panel? You may want to look into that one a little more to be sure. The stock shifter location on the T56 is pretty far back from the motor. For a 67 Camaro, it is about 4.5 inches back from stock. I do recall seeing a shifter (Mcleod???) meant for adapting the T56 to a vette. It attached towards the side of the forward cover, and required some modifications to the shift rail. I could be thinking of much older vettes however...

Tach problem is easy just get a electric tach from a 75 -77 it will be a perfect match for your 73 just electric. As far as bolting your motor to the original 4 speed , do a search of previus posts by me and you will find all the info you need. Stan 70 Corvette LQ4 4 Speed.

Is there a module or something other than the complete tach that will work? I ask because the old guy who was the vette expert blurted out something like "You only need the..." before it looked like he caught himself and walked off. The bosses were standing there.
I got a good used hood from them.
