Those are the knock sensors. Yeah that motor went for a swim in the sea. Are you sure the 5.3 heads will keep your compression down enough? You can send the rocker arms to harland sharp for a rebuild, usually a good idea cause the stockers puke out the needle bearings.

Yeah, the 5.3 heads are the some of the only ones I can find that are legal for that class (220cc intake runner, 15 degree valve angle) I am trying to have the chambers CNC'd to be a little bigger. As long as I am somewhere between 9 and 10 to 1 compression, I think I'll be OK, considering I am limited to only a 76mm turbo.

In the one cylinder that didn't get rusted out- The bore looks perfect, cross hatch like brand new. Alegedly, this motor only has like 40k miles, do you suppose the bearings could have that much slop in such a short period of time?

Sucks it is in such rough condition but the seller was very up front and didn't hide anything. I'd really think the block will clean up. Hopefully the crank is ok like you mentioned.

Did you really have to bust the tranny up like that though. Couldn't it have been salvageable if you hadn't busted it all to hell? Good luck man.

The tranny had a hole punched in the case when I bought it, I thought I could weld it up, but when I tried to bolt the tranny up to the motor for hoisting it out of the truck the belhousing shattered, probably because the flexplate was bent from hoisting it around with no belhousing bolts in it. Once the second break occured, I abandoned trying to weld it up. I think the corosion embrittled the case any way, I barely tapped it with a hammer to shatter it.

...besides, there was no other way to get the tranny seperated anyway, flexplate bolts were rusted solid and the motor is rusted solid so you can't rotate the crank. I've had several cylinders sitting full of penetrating oil for a week now, and they are just as full w/ oil as the day I started- that is how thouroughly they are rusted. Looks like I'll probably just have haul off the whole works in my next scrap iron run-

I had asked the seller to refund me $200 bucks to compensate me, but have not heard back from him, big surprise.
