03 Mustang LS1 Conversion
Good luck getting either a turbo or your cash back!
Do you not want to start dropping the motor in until you can set it up for a turbo? I'd say may as well drop in the LS1, and set up the turbo when you can. If you can wait though, I guess why not. I'd supercharge it myself..
Anyways, nice project you've got going on here. How much weight will you be saving versus a ford engine?
The Best V8 Stories One Small Block at Time
The LS1 makes better power, is easier to work on, lighter and better looking than any ford mod motor. I have nothing against fords, my dad drives an F-150 and it's a fantastic truck. GM just made a better V8 (although ford guys would argue against that fact till they're blue in the face).
Sure he'll get an earful from "loyal blue ovalists" but come on people... What the hell? Have we learned nothing about hotrodding over the years? Who really argues about a 350 in a '32 coupe these days (loyalists aside)? Does it really matter which engine goes into which mark?
If everyone walked the same road we wouldn't have any innovations in this hobby. We wouldn't see an LS1 in a 240sx or a 300zx. We wouldn't see giant blown BB chevys in '64 Comets(check out the August issue of PHR if you don't believe me). We wouldn't see 350s in Jags or Datsuns. We wouldn't see american v6s in british MGs, Triumphs and the like (check out www.britishv8.org for some very interesting cars...)
The point is this: I think that LSX swaps into Mustangs are awesome. You get light weight, traction friendly rears, great handling and, if you like the styling, great style. Think about it: if you like everything about a car except what's under the hood, why not take it out and replace it with something of your liking?
P.S. Good luck.

I AGREE 1000% I LOVE MUSTANGS BUT HATE THE ENGINES FORD PUTS IN THEM, CHEVY HAS SIMPLE DESIGN WITH BIG PERFORMANCE. THE 03/04 COBRAS ARE GREAT BUT WHEN THAT ENGINE BLOWS UR LOOKING AT PAYING 6K+ ON A NEW/USED ONE
....THIS PROJECT IS GREAT BUT I DONT REALY LIKE IMPORTS WITH AMERICAN HEARTS NOTHING AGAINST THE PEOLE THAT DO IT THERE THE SMART 1'S(BUT ITS NOT REAL A IMPORT ANY MORE). ITS EVERY OTHER IMPORTER THAT SWEARS THAT THERE HEADER/INTAKE/EXHUAST SET UP IS GOING TO TAKE DOWN THE WORLD....AND THEN THERES THE GUYS THAT PUT TURBOS AND ACT LIKE THERE CO'STARS ON THE FAST & THE FURIOUS BUT TALE THEM TO LINE UP WITH A H/C OR TURBO/SC V8 AND NOW THERE HAVING BOOST LEAKS
....BUT I LOVE THIS IDEA Don't get me wrong, I know there's fast Fords out there... they're just hard to come by. An LSx is probably the most logical way to achieve a fast, street driven fox body. I think we all know that Ford can't touch an LSx on economy.
Good luck, can't wait to see a finished product.
