Default question for Cable X users

I have puchased a cable box & need to know what the "transmision gear teeth# is for a 4L60E in order to set up the DIP switches.

The 4L60E has 40 teeth on the reluctor ring.

The best way to set up the Cable X though is to use the LS1 PCM speedo output wire and just set the Cable X to 4000 pulses. All done.

John is right there. Just set you Cable-X for 4000, the PCM takes the VSS signal and creates a 4000 puls per mile output that your Cable-X willinterperet. Make sure you have a good ground and a good +12V. Use a 5A fuse!

I am using the speedo output from the Speartech modded PCM. By the way John, Excellent product! Thanks guys, will do.

On the Cable-X just set dip switches 7,9, and 10 to ON, and everything thing else to off and you're good to go.

I also am setting up my Cable-X for my swap. 82 Toyota Supra with LS1/T56. Cable-X set for 4000PPM from LS1 computer. Speedo reads high. When I did the Cable-X self test my speedo read 69mph instead of the 60mph that it is supposed to. My question is can I go into my EFI Live and change the PPM output to correct the reading without confusing the LS1 computer? Getting to the Cable-X box is a PIA to goof with the dip switchs.

Sorry about the hijack but my question kind of fits with the rest of the thread.

Yes, you can play with the PPM out and calibrate your speedo that way. It won't affect any PCM functions.
On a T56 application you can do about anything you want without affecting anything in the PCM. Since shift points don't have anything to do with vehicle speed on a T56, as long as the PCM gets some kind of a speed signal in (accurate or not), that's really all that matters.

John, I am not using any VSS signal to the PCM, due to the fact I have a Viper T56 and the VSS is of a different shape from the F-Body and doesn't fit ino the trans tailshaft. I know the signal are of a different type from the GM. so far I don't think anything is wrong as it seem to drive ok... or am I missing something in the PCM programming that is not working.

Is there anything I can do to get the Viper VSS Signal to feed the GM PCM correctly? I was just planning on giving the VSS Sensor a 8v feed (I read that is the correct voltage for this sensor), ground and then use the signal to feed a Autometer Speedo.

If you're not seeing any ill effects from no VSS, then that's fine. We've done a lot of sand rail type vehicles with no VSS and they all seem fine with it. Sometimes you see some funny idling after coasting down a hill or something like that.

I'm sure that Viper Hall Effect signal could be "massaged" for the LS1 PCM, but it sounds like it's fine as is.

Not if it was taken into account when the PCM was programmed. The PCM does the calculation for tire size and gear ratio and then outputs an accurate 4000 pulse per mile signal.

Then you feed that signal to the Cable-X and all it needs to know is the 4000 PPM. The Cable-X can be used to tweak the signal though, in case the speedo head is off a little, or tire size has changed, etc.

John, what would you suggest on how to "Massage" the Vipers Hall Effect Signal so that the PCM could understand it and I can use the PCM VSS Output feed a Speedo?

Or do you think it is a moot point, as my only goal for the Viper VSS signal is to feed a Autometer Speedo. Should I just proceed with that plan ?

Assuming the instruction books are all the same; page 3 shows the setting for 400 pulses as 7 & 9 "ON" with all other switches off. Then you turn switch 10 on as a "X10" multiplier for 4000 pulses total.
