Can the headers be installed after the box using an undercar installation?

sorry carl i havent been in my garage in 3 weeks almost, its been about a hundred and humid everyday and a few days with the heat index it hit 112!!!!!! i looked at the headers and as far as installing them from the bottom, i dont think they will fit. i did mine with the box out and slid the box up from the bottm. i forgot to check the dist. from the firewall i'll check tomorow though. any other pictures or anything i can check for ya?

Carl, just saw this thread. Yes you can install the header from under the car with the steering box installed. My steering box looks very similar to yours. I removed the factory bolts that hold that plate down and installed button head allen bolts. (the two that come close to the header) I also ground down the cover so that it clears the header tube. I'm running S&P plates with poly engine mounts.

On the bolts on the steering box, try using some button head allen bolts instead of grinding. I'm not sure if the steering box is anything different from a vega steering box but I have seen some smaller boxes out there.

im getting button heads to try, but lowes does not have then so i have to order them in a 50 pack from granger, we'll see, they should help alot.

Thanks for the info. Did you get a chance to measure the distance from the firewall to the vertical surface of one of the heads?

Rybar,

I think you may have a rack & pinion header. SW stated that their headers are designed around the S&P plates, so yours should have been easy. Yeah, like any header install and fitment is easy!

Pretty sure mine are the stock steering ones. I got them from Jason (G-Force Design Concepts) the guy who built Fuel.

carl i checked off the back off the head and its about 2 inches averywhere except one spot where the firewall sticks a out a smidge on the driver side and there its at 1 1/2 inches at its closest

about the spark plug issue. Magnecor offers plug wires for cars with headers. they have a 45* boot. think that will help?
