Default 98 v6 A4, to 01 ls1 A4, wiring help wanted

Here's the deal im looking for the easest swap just looking for clarification perferably from experance. It a 98 v6 A4 to 01 ls1 A4 aside from the differances in the egr, pcm, motor/trannys, ect... what is the easest way to get this swap done. I thought i could use an 99+ wiring harness and have it connect right in but have since been corrected. I dont have a wiring harness yet and can sell the 01 pcm, not big deal. Do i get a 98 harness and pcm or make the 99+ work keep in mide i'm looking for simplicity, But if the 98 ecm is harder to tune or some thing im willing to try the 99+. The car will have an ls6 heads and intake, headers, cam, and a 150 shot, cat back, gears and thats about all. A/c & power accessories must work. thanks

Your best bet is to get a complete donor car from a '98 LS1 equipped f-body. Sure you could source parts individually and may end up being a couple bucks cheaper, but a complete donor will be by far the easiest. This way you can take the harness, PCM, k-member, motormounts and tranny all from one car. If planned correctly, this could be a more or less direct swap.

Unless you are planning on getting a good tune. If you get a nice tune you can use a 99-02 harness. I would suggest not using a 98 harness. What year model was your engine out of?

Right. I wouldn't even suggest using a '98 engine, but I was under the impression that that's what he had. But since he asked for "easiest" I figured that this would be easiest.

the motor is an 01 the car is a 98 v6. i live in houston so tuning it is no big deal mti, hpe, g-force, and many others can do the tune. just what ecm/ harness would be best, and what will have to be done to make it work ie splice which wires ect...

You didn't mention if it was a quattro car or FWD. Quattro would be a lot easier as all the RWD hardware would already be there. You'd just have to swap in a bigger diff, axles and drive shaft. Its a swap I've been thinking about since I've been working on VW's lately and I've had the whole front of a Passat apart and seen how wide the 90 degree V6 really is. It would be a tight fit length wise though as the V6 is pretty short. I'd personally use a Speartech universal LS1 harness and which ever PCM he would recommend. That's probably the most expensive route though as some guys on here have made their own harnesses.

I'm thinking in this case A4 stands for Automatic-4speed.
He's swapping a '01 LS1 into a '98 Camaro with V6 and Automatic. Correct?

yes its a firebird i can now see the misunderstanding i thought the quattro guy was being funny (stupid) but like i said i can see now sorry.

yes it a firebird, to be exact. If the 01 harnnes (this is what i wanted to use) would work, i know theres a few differances with the fuel gauge, h2o gauge, and i dont know what else. So if some one could explain what to rewire that would be geat. I'm not a novist machanic or any thing by far just not alot of experence with the ls motor

I think it's hilarious. Where else will you ever find this kind of mashup?

I think I may at least have the '01 pin out floating around. Let me see what I can find.

im in the middle of buying parts for my swap... 01 v6 to 01 ls1. im doing same year so i dont have to change my dash harness... you will have to do some splicing and dicing because its a different year engine/wiring harness than your dash harness. good luck bro!
