Not sure what prices are like in other places, but a search on car-part.com shows pages of low mile 5.3s for $650 or less up here in the north east. On the other hand, you can get a low mile LQ9 for only a little bit more. After you spend all the time and money to do the swap, it seems sort of foolish not to start with the bigger motor. I paid $1k for my LQ9, which was advertised as having 62k miles. It came complete from intake to oil pan and included an intact wiring harness. I got them to throw in the ECM and starter for that price too. All it was missing was alternator and power steering pump, but since I'm converting to f-body accessories, that was of no concern to me anyway.

I think your refering to the last picture back of the engine. That's a casting mark on the rear of block not the head, the casting 4.8L/5.3L. ,the 4.8 and the 5.3 shared the same iron block. The LQ4 and LQ9 will only have 6.0L cast in there block. If the engine came out of a 2000 Yukon as advertised, then it is probably a 5.3 but 350 for a 2000 5.3 is not a great deal .I just bought a 2000 5.3 with 160K complete intake , exhaust manifolds ,coil packs and water pump for only 50 bucks.I consider these early motors ,to be just core motors with these many miles.Hope this helps, keep looking threre are better buys out there!

My thoughts exactly... So to say someone got a LM7 and bored it to the 3.9xx or whatever the stock LS1 is, and used stock LS1 pistons. Would I need to use the LM7 or LS1 rods? And with stock LS1 pistons and 5.3 heads milled .030 what would be the CR? Im getting ready to buy a 98 Z28 roller and think I shall do this considering its way cheaper than a LS1 and have stronger cylinder walls. Will be using a LS6 intake, custom grind cam, ported 5.3 heads, and a 150 wet shot. Should be a good strong setup. Least seems that way to me.

The L-33 Vin code B was only available on EXT Cab 4WD full size Pickups 05-07 Silverado 1500 4WD and 05-07 GMC Sierra 1500 4WD I'm a big fan of these engines check out my post Fun ,quick and easy its mentioned there. Also I believe the 07 has to be a classic style ,not the new body style. This engine was factory rated at 310 hp.Not to be confused with the LM4 04 Trailbazer and 04 Envoy ,the LH6 replaced the LM4 in 05 its a alum block also with active fuel management

Yeah that's what mine is, I was looking at it last night and figured it wouldn't work.

I'm going to try and get the parts I need to swap over to LS1 brackets and intake. Bad thing is buy the time I'm done buying the conversion parts I might have been able to buy an LS1.

Yes this build has been done before,Played with this idea myself if my old LS-1 block turns out to be bad.First thing you have to decide is what crank your going to use ?I believe the 5.3 crank is balanced to the smaller bore size pistons. So if your going use stock LS-1 pistons you would be better off to use a LS-1 crank.I think someone makes a over sized piston for the 5.3 crank, this may be an option but I have not researched it .Maybe someone that has done this could tell us?

You might want to check out LKQ recyclers. I just picked up a 2002 5.3 LM7 with 112k miles for 450$ complete from intake to pan with accessory brackets and most of the harness, they cut off the lead that ran to the relay box. It even has the coils and exhaust manifolds. They will actually ship in a unit that you need for no cost if one of their other yards has it.

I opted to get my motor with just a startup warranty as i plan to cam it before it even gets into the car. This saved 100 bucks off the original 450 . Im going to be running the Kwik Performance alt only bracket as i will be converting to manual steering but LKQ has the alternators and power steering setups as well and for a killer price. I picked up a 130 amp truck alternator for 25 bucks, which is killer considering people here want 50-100 for stock 105 amp f body alts.
