1988 And Earlier LS Shootout! CALLING OUT ALL LS-POWERED VINTAGE CHEVYS FOR SUPER CHEVY MAGAZINE SHOOTOUT!
Everyone asks, “How do I get in the magazine?” Well here is your chance. The popularity of retrofitting an LS motor into a vintage bowtie is growing, so we are conducting an invitation-only shootout.
RULES- must be an LS powered Chevrolet car. Car must be 1988 or earlier. Can be carbureted or fuel injected. MUST be muffled. Must abide by all NHRA rules for safety and driver licensing. Power adders are permitted.
WHERE- The event will be held at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ during a weekday.

I'm pretty sure that means the vehicle needs to be a Chevy

. Sounds like fun, but theres no way I could make it to jersey, between work and school I`m booked. 
I would said that the correct name as GM states it, is "Gen III" and "Gen IV" engines. The Block that they market is called and listed as the LSX block. All other names are just street names that many call the Gen III and IV engines. LSx is a very common name to use for any Gen III/IV engine. And it seem that a lot of people call the LQ9, LQ4, LM7, and other's a "LS1" engine, which is incorrect. As you have seen ad's in Ebay and other (Craigslist, etc).

Yep, unless I know its a late model GM guy that I am talking to I just say my car has a LS1. It saves soooooo much time, because if I say LM7, or GEN III SBC no one (well except the late model GM guys) has any clue what I am talking about. I have had many times where I spent 15 minutes explaining to someone what a GEN III SBC is and at the end I can see that in reality I just wasted 15 minutes and they still don`t know exactly what I am talking about.
