Default painless harness fuel question

I have the painless wiring harness on my 98 ls1 69 camaro. The problem is the fuel pump is not activating. I have run the small grey wire marked "fuel pump" to the positive side of the bosch ext. pump and a ground wire to the other. When I turn on the ignition all I hear is a click. The engine will turn over and the engine light comes on just like what the instructions state. The harness has a connector for a fuel pump relay from a late model f body, but since im not using an intake fuel pump from a camaro i did not use this. Any ideas out there? Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the input. The fuel pump relay on the harness has a GM type plug connector which connects to a camaro internal pump assembly harness. Do I splice into it or just take they grey " fuel pump" trip wire and connect it to a relay with ordinary wire connectors to power the pump.
