I decided why no make another debate except not with an import engine but another chevy. imo the best engine chevy has ever made vs. another really good engine.

LT5 is definately a cool powerplant. But who needs 8k when you can make loads of power under 7k. I say no contest LSX is a superior powerplant. OHV is where it's at. Simple! Easily upgraded! Parts availability! Cheap! Plentiful! Light weight, Loads and Loads and Loads of affordable Do It Your Self Power! DOHC LT5 has none of that!

Eh, I think the LT5 is a hella good motor. Plus, it would make an awesome swap project. The thing against a LT5 is the cost and availability. The problems with the LT5 is the complicated throttle system that they had to program into the PCM in order for any midrange power to be made.

Think about it this way, fors 4V mod motor is cheaper to mod

And those things are very very expensive for NA power

Just not worth it at all

LS1 is much better

the LT5 still holds a lot of records today, the 1988 Callaway Sledgehammer reached a topspeed of 254.7mph with John Lingenfelter as the driver. The Corvette had LT5 with a twin turbo set up creating 880hp. Those who say this engine can't be modded your full of ****. 1995 Corvette ZR1 can keep up or even beat a C6 Corvette.

The heads on the LT5 can be ported to flow over 400 CFM. Let's see you do that with your stock LSx heads. The engine is just badass. It's the best sounding engine in any GM vehicle IMO. The durability of that engine is like none other.

The LT5 was a great engine in concept however the problem is, it is as big and heavy as a big block but makes less or equal power with less torque and costs at least twice as much in doing so. Then you start modding it and the bost numbers keep rising. You can make as much or more power out of an LSX for less money easily. Can the LT5 handle 40 psi or more boost like the LSX block can? They are neat and highly technical engines that deserve respect but as far as an overall performance engine it just falls short. There is a reason why the Gen I small block survived from 1955 to well into the 90s in the same basic form whereas the LT5 didn't even last 10 years.

Parts availability, cost, and power...
Take the cost of a LT5 and drop that into a LS1..wait..take the cost of a LT5, chuck the LS1 out and build a Stroker LSX with that money, see which one will have more power...

ZR1 was a consistant 13 second quarter mile car... C6's run in the 12's regularly. Also, keep in mind, you are comparing the ZR1 to the basement of the LSx architecture.

Plus, ZR1 is heavier, and takes alot more room under the hood than the LSx.

There is no comparison.

The sledgehammer was a TPI powered car, the LT5 wasn't out until 1990...

The LT5 certainly can be modded, buts its not going to be cheap. And yeah, a 95 ZR1 might be able to keep up with a C6 in a strait line, but its a more expensive car (if it were new today).
Back to the simple facts, the LSx platform is lighter, cheaper, and physically smaller while being able to make the same amount of power/torque, thats why GM dropped the LT5.

Yea..that Engine is a monster under a Hood..

There is a company that makes the LSX Heads that are 4 Valves/Cylinder that flow over 400cfm..you throw them on top of a 450ci+ LSX build..that would be insane..

I just thought of this..just a little comparison..
I don't know if it's exact, just goin off my head from what I have read..
LT5 - 400hp, 375tq, mid 13's in the Vette
LS1 - 350hp, 330tq, 12.7's in the Vette..

Then consider mods, which one would respond better..
No question there from what has been done.

I can see if the Technology was around back then like we have now, that LT5 would probably be less expensive and parts would have been made for it, but if it was that good, it would of stayed around.

Funny thing about both of them is that the Bore x Stroke is damn near the same..

Sorry LSX is the more logical engine.

LT5 was great, but too big and expensive.
