First, sell that L30 or L31 and buy a nice LM7. LM7's are dirt cheap, make more torque and power, and get better gas mileage.

I can`t think of a better forum for 98 vortec swaps into shoeboxes. In fact I can`t think of any forums on the topic. I have looked into swapping the GEN I vortec motors before and I did find a few pages, mostly swaps into 4x4 trucks/suv`s.
For the most part it should be a bolt in, the motor mount holes are the same as a GEN I carbed SBC, the exhaust should bolt right up, the truck accys will probably clear in the tri-five. The oil pan may be too low, if it is I would look into the pan for a LT1 caprice, I have no actual basis for it but my gut feeling says it might bolt on because they both use 1 piece rear main seals and both engines are based on the GEN I SBC.
