I don't have an answer for you, but I'm curious to know what you are using that pan on?

I'm guessing you mean which vehicle I need that pan for? A Mitsu Van from the 80s.

Fits real nice. Just need to know about that valve so I can bolt everything down.

Thanks. I've got one of those pans I am going to sell and just wasn't sure what all people are putting them in. I doubt I'll find someone else doing your swap. That is going to be very unique indeed.

As far as I know, any LS oil pan will bolt up to any LS engine. You do need a matching windage tray.
The biggest issue is whether you need the sump portion of the pan at the front or the back. This will depend upon any frame crossmembers and steering linkage.

Good questions. You will need the correct windage tray and oil pump pick-up. So those are two other things to consider.

If your local dealer won't give you those prices, an on-line discount dealer will.

As I mentioned earlier, I suspect the Mast and Holley are made from the same casting. Best that I can estimate (again sorry I'm not sure), this casting is very similar to the F-body in terms of height and front clearance issues. The Holley/Mast is a safe choice to ensure that unexpected road debris doesn't destroy your engine.
Holley pan is the old RetroLSX pan that was designed with the clearence of an LH8 pan and the sump of an fbody pan. The Mast pan is a clean sheet design and if you look at the two side by side you can see they are no where near the same casting. Also the Mast pans have internal baffling. Not bashing the Holley pan but they are two entirely different pans/castings.

Thank you for the correction!
I knew the Holley was based on another pan and mistakenly thought it was the Mast.
I will edit my previous post for those people that don't read this 24 page thread.

No, send it back. It will sit much too low below the frame crossmember and be very vulnerable to damage. This has been extensively discussed on the nastyz28 forum. (I'm very active there and will find some links later today.)
I originally bought that pan for my '81 Camaro and sent it back to Summit after measuring it at 7-1/2" versus 7-7/8" for the truck pan.

Default Bat Wing in a 67 El - Camino

Hey guys putting in LS3 in my '67 it came with a batwing pan on it since its out of a vette. I have skimmed this forum a bit but its 23 pages and nothing jumped out at me. Anyone used this pan on this type of swap, does it fit, Pros - Cons, etc. Thanks in advance.

Assuming you are talking about a '67 Camaro, the closest I could find was this link on Nastyz28:

http://www.nastyz28.com/forum/showthread.php?t=229812

Post #5 is: "correct me if im wrong, but so far the LS3 has only been available in the vette and the 5th gen camaro. the vette pan wont work without cutting the crossmember on a second gen f body. i have no clue how the 5th gen pan is configured . as far as bolting up, yes it will, but u will most likely have to have the windage tray , pick-up tube , and dip-stick off the donor cars pan to work."

That's all I have - I have not seen a definite answer to your question.

Great info here, what's the difference between the ctsv pan and a c6 vette pan?

Default LS Swap Holley Oil Pan

Careful with the Holley oil pan. I tried to use it in my 69 camaro LS swap and the oil pan hit the stock crossmember before the motor mounts touched the stands. Went with the Autokraft pan and now have at least 1/2" clearance between the oil pan and subframe. I highly recommend the Autokraft pan, the only down fall is that it does not have provisions to mount the bell housing to the oil pan.

jmoli42572.. .what stye plates and mounts are you using that the Holley pan would be hitting the Crossmember ? I know that the front sump is deeper that an F-Body front sump, maybe 1/2" or more ?

Keep in mind that each model car has a different fit. While jmoli42572 couldn't get the Holley pan to fit his 1st Gen Camaro, I know it will fit a 2nd Camaro just fine with plenty of space between it and the Crossmember. The Holley pan is just not a good value - very expensive, not well made and missing both a gasket ($30) and oil sensor provision. It is MUCH cheaper to buy a brand new GM pan of your choice from the dealer.

I think its a marketing ploy by Holley (and others) that people automatically think that an aftermarket pan is better and/or cheaper than the stock pan. That certainly was true in the SBC days, but is not true now.

While there is disagreement on whether the structural strength of the GM pans is important to overall engine durability, I feel more comfortable when everything, including the bell housing, bolts up as GM designed it. I cannot image that GM would put extra money into the pan unless their computer simulation or actual testing showed benefits.
As always - just my opinion.
