4L80E coolant lines From a 4L80E, which coolant line is taking the coolant out of the trans, which line is taking the coolant back to the trans? It matters because I have to take the coolant first to the cooler in the rad, and then to the trans cooler itself.
There is no "coolant" in the trans. It doesn't mater which order you put your trans cooler lines in. The pump circulates trans fluid to the cooler to cool the fluid. It doesnt matter if its hooked up backwards, its still circulating fluid.

The trans cooler lines will "work" either way, but you should hook the output line to the bottom of the trans cooler so that it fills the trans cooler from the bottom and pushes all the air out the top. If you hook the output from the trans to the top of the transmission cooler it can trap air bubbles in the cooler.
On a 4l60e the bottom line/fitting is the output and the top is the input, but I can`t say for sure on a 80E as I have no experience with them.

I think it is the rear line that is the return from the cooler. The sure way to find out is to remove the fitting that the lines snap into and see how long it extends into the case. The return side is longer.

i am not sure of how accurate all that info is, because i thought the turbo 400uses a 1/4 X 18 fitting, but its not pipe thread-ATI trans sells the special fittings for #6 and #8 lines, so you dont need the factory 5/16" inverted flare adapters-maybe same with some other trans also-just nit pickin, lol
