Default LS7 3rd Gen Camaro

I just bought a clean 89' IROC to replace my totalled 4th gen I'm buying a LS7 for it and wondering if any has attempted this swap yet and if they had any suggestions/tips for completing this project. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Sweet ! i like the idea , there have been several LSX into 3rd gens usually ls1 or 2 that all should be the same as far as swap goes i would definetly have subframe connecters and STB to stiffen it up - big brake upgrade to slow that thing down! and some extra beef in the rear 9" or a 12 bolt the std T56 should tollerate anything street tires can grip yeah right, you'll definetly want some traction! I tightnd up my 87 T/A with alston weld in sub connecters and a edelbrock strut brace and what a difference! night and day keep us informed on your progress and plenty of pics too good luck!

For the most part it will be just like dropping in an LS1/LS2 with the exception of the dry sump setup that you have to fit somewhere under the hood. There are some LSX conversion kits (motor mounts and trans Xmember) out there for 3rd gens that could ease the swap. I think an LS2 wiring harness should work with the LS7. All the best. That should make a sweet 3rd gen.

I would have loved to drop in an LS7! The swap is only different if you try and keep it with the dry oil sump. I think you can still put an F-body oil pan if you want.

Thanks for the input, I have already installed subframe connectors and the car is currently having an 8.50 certified cage being installed in it to keep everything tight and stiff. Now as far as the dry sump oil system goes that is still a question I am researching

That thing should be beyond sweet. I've never seen a LS7 swap done to a 3rd gen. But, I don't think it would be all that different. Only the sump system, should be the only difference. GOOD LUCK

Don't forget a wonder bar, standard rear suspension upgrades. My guess is you'll need a transmission and rear end up-grade.

We have a custom made semi-dry sump LS7 oil pan that will fit into your third gen as well as aftermarket oil tanks/breathers. Problem soved with a 100% bolt-in.

Really... what would be required to make this work with a LQ4?

Honestly I dont know what a wonder bar is but I think it will be eliminated because I am using a rack/pinion steering. The suspension will be upgraded with coilovers at all 4 corners and the rest of the suspension will be tubular heimjointed everything will be double adjustable. I using a TH350 trans and Mosers new M9 rearend. I just got back from the chassis shop where the cage is being installed and everything is coming along nicely it should only be another week

dayum..this sounds like a fun project... The wonder bar ties the front of the subframe together..it in culmination with a strut tower brace tighten up the front of a 3rd gen quite nicely... AND, eliminate flex/cracking in the rail... You should be OK w/o using rack and pinion... just triangulate everything and you will be fine..

I am using a TH350 in the car, ignore the vehicle description at the bottom of my threads, this car does not exist anymore, I have not changed it yet
