Default Fuel delivery question on my LS1 conversion

Hello everyone.

Erik from Norway here.

I am working on converting my Pro Touring 74`Vega Wagon to a LS1/T56 combo.

I have a Camaro 99 LS1 and collecting parts for the fuel delivery system.

I am planning to use a in tank pump and the stock Camaro fuel rail.

The question is were in the system is the fuel regulator?

The fuel rail only has one in fuel line and a smal damper/regulator on it.

There must be a regulator with a return line somwere.
I noticed the fuel filter to the corvette has three lines on it. Is this a filter and regulator with return line?

Can someone help tell me how this fule delivery system work and how I should do it?

Thanks in advance
Regards
Erik

The regulator is part of the fuel pump assembly inside the tank on the Camaro setup. If you have the whole setup, the return line is the small line coming off of the "T" just outside the tank and behind the fuel filter.

If you can incorporate that whole setup, it will work fine for your swap. Once you get past the "T" you can customize the line to fit your particular vehicle.

If you don't use the Camaro regulator setup, and modify the system to use only the pump itself, then you can use the Corvette filter/regulator combo. Yes, it has 3 fittings because the regulator is built inside. Each time you change the fuel filter you throw away a nice little regulator.

Hello and thanks for super fast answer.

So my suspisions were right Camaro has a assambly innside the tank.

No I don`t have the whole setup from a camaro.
I have a stock Vega Tank with stock internal fule pump for a carb.

Hmmm ques I can put the new in tank pump to the LS1 in to the Vega fuel tank should be no big deal.
I would also halfto make a baffle that is a bigger problem.

Are there any fuel cells made for fuel injection available?

Greate I can use the in tank pump and a Corvette filter/regulator a bit pricy in the long run but hey it will work.

But I thaught the Corvette had regulator on the rail and return from the rail?

Does the harness/ECU have any controll of the pump?
Or just switch it on and of?

What kind of separate fuel regulator and filter kits to buy for the LS1 setup?

Thanks for all your help

There are places like Rock Valley Tanks that can custom make a fuel injection gas tank for you. Probably easier and a lot cheaper to devise a small baffle to go around your pump.

Only the 97-98 Corvette had the regulator on the rail. After that they went to the 3 port filter/regulator combination.

The ECU controls the fuel pump relay. As long as it sees engine rotation, the ECU keeps the fuel pump relay energized. It's a safety thing so that if you crash the car and the engine quits running, you don't pump fuel all over the place thru ruptured fuel lines, etc.

Erik

Why not install a fuel pressure regulator at or near the engine and run a return line back to the tank. May be cheaper as most of the parts are probably readily available there.

Just a thought.

Hey and thanks aigain for a fast answer.

Yepp I have been making most mods on my car myself including the Jaguar XJ6 IRS but cutting and welding a gas tank is sometning I don`t like it might explode...
But I have a friend who might help.

Does anyone have a picture of how baffel shold look like.

Oh ok so the corvette filter/regulator sounds fast and easy to use.

I am thinking of getting a adjustable fuel regulator and separate filter.
Does the filter mount befor or afther the regulator?
This because I want to swap cam and some other stuff later try and get it past 400rwhp should be fun in a smal car but first I get the engine running to see everything works.

Ok so it only turns the pump on and off no electronic pressure regulating.

I know about the safty part the Vega actualy has a simular thing as stock I want to keep it but let the ECU control the pump.

Thanks for helping doing this here in Norway is hard and expensive but I love it.

Hello and thank you so much.

Greate forum I will be reading loads here this comming wither when doing the swap.

Right now I am collecting parts and doing the planning.

I have all the main pices like engine/trans and C5 steel tube doubble walled manifols (will be replaced with custom headers later).
So I can now start the work just need to finish off my other little project..

I understood from previous threads that a fuel rail which contains a regulator BEYOND the fuel rail and BEFORE the return line is much more accurate at delivering the specified pressure. The regulator in this case has adjusted the pressure taking into account pressure drop from the line.
On the other hand, the regulator in the tank design (or before the fuel rail) only keeps pressure at the specified rate BEFORE it reaches the cylinders. This design is ok for unmodded or lightly modded engines, but becomes more of an issue when fuel requirements are greater.
Please adjust my statement if it is not accurate. Thanks!
