With the C5/C6 drivetrain the torque tube is very necessary. You can solid mount the trans and diff, you will just feel more vibration. The way the C5/C6 drivetrain is designed the torque converter is in the rear and requires a large flange to drive it. Here is an exploded view of how everything looks inside of it.

In a month or two i will be going through the motor and making a few upgrades and preping the motor for a set of turbos that is coming its way. Enjoy
What jig did you use to determine the locations for mounting the upper and lower control arms?

Did you fabricate a longer torque tube. What is your opinion on shortening the torque tube for a shorter wheel base project?

I wonder how many builds die because of divorce?

Seems like it may be easier to ditch the torque tube and mate the tranny to the motor like a conventional setup, instead of lengthening/shortening the original torque tube.

i named mine 61 c10 Snowflake, if you have ever seen a snowflake during a blizzard, i had bee tossing around the corvette transaxle for some time, i was thinking to buy a complete rolling chassis for the swap, after seeing what you went thru i think that is still the way to go for me. lol, you look like you do fantastic work! i am inspired, i have a built 516 caddy for mine and i picked up ZFS6-40 to mate to it, flywheel and bell housing are what i am deciding on currently

Chevrolet only uses X Y and Z I can take the time to put it into CAD but would be easier if someone would send it to me.
