No problem guys. WARNING!!! RANT: Too often on this board it seems no one wants to give up their secrets on how they did something or they want to sell a $20 part from GM for $200 just because they know the part number and you don't.

Yep, everyone should help each other. If I have info, I'll give it up to make sure no one make a costly mistake. However, some are different.

Well a little update on my adventure with this bracket.

I'm having a tough time getting it to work with the F-body accessories. The belt won't clear the upper waterneck. It points straight forward. So I reroute the belt, only to find it hits the lower waterneck..... I started moving pulleys around, but to no avail.

Guess I'll have to run the Fbody motorsports bracket for the meantime......

I've thought about swapping to the truck accessories, to see if that would help. If I did however, the upper waterneck would hit the throttle linkage. I'll have to get a picture of what I'm dealing with. Perhaps another set of eye's on the situation would help clear things up.

Couldnt you use the truck's water pump? It looks the same except for the upper water neck. Im not sure if there is a difference. Please let me know if there is. Thanks

Oh there is a difference. The upperwater neck points straight up, which causes it to interfere with the throttle linkage.

Something will work out. I will figure this out without costing an arm and a leg

It seems to me like that lower idler pulley is going to shred the belt in short order?

If anyone is interested in a very nice bracket setup for f-body engines with a Sanden compressor PM me. I came across a set that are really slick and around $200.

Why not just post up the link? We all need cheaper alternatives when it comes to AC

My point with this bracket was to keep my R12 intact. It worked perfectly when the trans quit last year.

I might get it running by mid april once I get the fuel system sorted out

FYI - I did a LS2 swap into a 1985 Vette and used a C5 compressor and the STOCK 85 old R12 eval, condenser, etc. It blows ICE cold and works perfect. NO issues at all.

I have heard about "not using" the LS pump before - but I can't relate. Also, this car is now a daily driver (featured for the build in Corvette Enthusiast Magazine over several issues) and the a/c was a MUST have from day one of planning the project.

However... that R4 conversion is killer. Nice work! I love low budget mods. That is top of the chart as far as I am concerned!

That bracket looks a lot like the ac bracket thats on my truck now. Mine is in good condition and blows cold. If I don't have to have surgery on my shoulder, we'll get started on it in about 2 weeks. I've got all my parts and am building my 4" cold air intake. I'll keep you posted.

Default ac whats up?

I just found a couple of ac's on ebay that look just like mine on my 6.0, but, only fit 96-2002. What change in 2003, such as mine that Street and Perf. claim is all season and won't work on mine. Come on, bring it. I can't figure this **** out. If I can get the correct compressor, I'll just notch the frame and keep it down low. I've read about a couple of guys who have done that so they can keep their compressors in the original spot. Where were the compressors on the 99's when the 6.0 first came out, low or high. That frame is just like mine on the tahoe and subrubans, etc.

Don't know about the differences in trucks, but as mentioned above on the 85 Vette (LS2) and my 69 Camaro (LS1) I ran the compressors down low in the stock LS location with stock reliable dependable accessory brackets. Had to notch the frame on both cars. Well worth it. I did however use the bracket conversion kit from BPR to install the Sanden in the stock F body a/c bracket for the 69 Camaro.

The truck compressor sits a tad further forward. I do know too the older blocks don't have a bolt hole in the block that is found on the newer ones. I have a 5.3 truck block that the a/c bracket will NOT bolt to a 98 Vette LS1 block due to the missing bolt stud hole. That may be the issue.

So, I could probably use the senden in the lower location and notch the frame. I'm assuming the senden will fit in my bracket, is that correct? I believe thats what you are saying. If thats the case I only need to pick up a senden 508 compressor. I think thats something that would work. I think a guy on the ls1truck forum did that on his 93 chevy with an ls1.
thanks greg

Yes, for at least the 98-02 F body brackets, BPR has the adapter piece to put a sanden compressor on the stock bracket. I don't know about using a truck or Vette bracket. However, it is pretty simple as the sanden is nearly the same size as the stock unit. Just take some creativity to build your own and notch the frame. I believe I paid $80 for the bracket adapter from Brewers.

5.3 racer, is the single thumbnail a picture of your cutlass or truck?
