You don`t HAVE to sump the tank, but it would be a good idea.

With a carb when you corner or accelerate hard and the fuel pickup sucks air it does not matter, but with EFI the pump runs dry which isn`t good, and the engine will immediately fall flat on its face.

If you don`t sump the tank you will probably have to always run with a minimum of 1/4 to 1/2 tank to avoid fuel sloshing away from the pickup

+1

Having a sump just means your allowing for the fuel to enter the lowest center of gravity (LOG), which will ensure that fuel is always being supplied to the pump.

Jegs sells a sump kit for $60 plus fittings, or you can just buy a fuel cell with the sump already in it if you don't feel like mutilating your factory tank.
