Default first gen nova fuel system question

To everyone that has done/is doing a ls swap, what type of tank, pump, other related items are you using? I have a 63 with a stock ls1 that should stay fairly tame, so I don't need any high dollar fancy stuff.

You could invest in one of the tanks built for your application with sending unit and pump built in or you could sump the tank and run a walbro 255 inline sump and have no problems...

Some of us are doing the sump and inline pump. I was going to but I think the pump will drive me crazy with the noise. So I'm goin to get a intank pump from www.tanksinc.com and modify the top of my tank for it. If you go over to stevesnovasite.com there is a LSx topic. 67pete has the tank and pump done with pictures posted. Looks nice.

I bought a stock new gas tank for my '62 and a stock fuel pump assembly for an LS1 F-Body. Cut the fuel pump 'cup' assembly down to the height of the tank, cut a hole in the top of the tank for the fuel pump assembly, then moved the fuel gauge sender so it mounted on the side of the tank. I had to cut the trunk floor for clearance for the hoses but I think it will be fine and quiet.

How noisey is that pump. Does it bother you at all?

NO it is not nosie can't really hear it at all. Really depends on where you mount it I mounted it right above the axel on the on the side where the back seats are. Don't mount it in the trunk had a holley blue on the old motor made all kinds of noise. Good luck to you.

Thank all of you guys for the input, I'm thinking I will probably go with a setup like Novas Forever, but I'm not sure I want to cut up the floor. I also posted over on Steves, and they said that a Colorado fuel pump could work, and it is returnless, so that would be less stuff for me to run, does anyone know if this is true? Novas, do you have any pictures of your install and how much cutting you had to do? There was also a guy on Steves that said he cut a hole in the top of the tank to put the pump in, then sealed it off with a plate, but he didn't say anything about cutting the trunk floor. Does anyone know of anywhere to get a baffled tank so I wouldn't have to worry about fuel starvation in case of any spirited driving I might do? Or would I just have to make sure I had not much less than half a tank?

I bought a tank from Ricks but I also did not have a tank at all. My original was shot from the previous owner letting it sit outside 10 + years. I figured by the time I bought a 200 dollar tank, 250 or so fuel pump, sending unit, and time/ someone welding it all up I would of had 700 bucks tied up in it. The stainless tank from Ricks was not much more than that and is verrry nice. Came with straps, bolts, and everything needed.

I have a Weldon 600A, external pump, on my car. It really surprised me when I first turned the key. I expected it to be a lot louder than it is. As soon as the engine starts, you can't hear the pump at all.

In my '70 Impala, I keep the original fuel tank, original fuel pick up/gauge sender; I had a local shop weld baffles around the pick up (to do that, they had to cut the tank open from the top, nothing visible from under).
I use an inline Walbro fuel pump and GM inline filter. The pressure side uses the original pick up from the tank, he return side requires an extra pipe added to the tank: the same shop can weld that return nipple for you, some people just bring the return into the filler neck or, like me, drill the tank (CLEAN, back from the shop) and screw in a nipple (I used a Russell bulkhead connector).
The good thing is that nothing is visible, nothing hangs under, the original gauge works since you keep the sender, and no hole in the bottom of the trunk. And if one day you need to replace you fuel sending unit or gauge sender, you can just get a repro Nova part, no exotic/rare aftermarket stuff.
