Default New A-body EFI tank

Well this comes a little late for myself but this is a nice option for a-body guys. Its a stamped tank that comes in either steel or stainless. Made in the usa and sells for $595 for steel and $999 for stainless. Check out this ebay link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1968-...mZ230218934975

Mods: If this violates the rules by all means delete it. However, I highly doubt any of the sponsors carry any products remotely like this.

"All of our fuel injection tanks have a baffle on the inside."

What does that really mean? Would be nice to see the pickup and baffle.

I am with Steath71 on that question.. a Baffle is one thing to help from the fuel from moving around too much or to quickly.. but if the fuel pickup is not in some kind of sump.. I can still starve out. I would like to see a picture of the pickup area.

I cant see spending that much on a fuel tank, for EFI, When you can use the impala/carpice tank anyway, maybe im just cheap.

Well. . we A-body guys have a few choices of what has been done or works...

- Use a B-Body Impala/Caprice/Buick Tank (Free to ???, Mind cost me $50)
- Mod Stock tank with a Competition Engineering weld on sump (Summit $61.88)
- Mod the stocker with a TanksINC ($225)
- This EBay tank ($595)
- Ricks or Rock Valley ($1200+)

Plus the cost of fittings, tubes and hoses.

My tank with pump assy/ from j-yard cost me 20bucks, well 22 sumthin after tax, all you need is a 14mm and a 10mm with extension and some garden snips to cut the harness and fuel lines.

p.s the only reason i state this is for future people who search for a-body fuel tanks, so they can get all the information, not just the EBAY tank.

As far as getting one of these Impala/Caprice tanks from the yard...
Do you need 94-96? Any particular modles to look for/avoid? Are they all plastic?
I'd like to arm myself w as much info as possible so I don't waste time/$.
Thanks

Well according to this thread(http://www.chevelles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=217110) on team chevelle, the tank has baffles and the pump is set in a bucket. How well setup all of this is who knows. I imagine musclerodz who posted about it on team chevelle could tell you more about it. Personally I would like to see a cutaway. I like this tank because it bolts into the stock location and looks stock. Unlike the b-body tanks which require you to cut the trunk floor, trim the frame rails, and it hangs lower than stock and doesn't look stock. Those things are fairly minor hurdles to me but for many this tank would be a better option. I went with the tanksinc setup personally. Also, as somebody mentioned its nice to let all the options be known.

Yup.. that is why I listed the 5 most common tank setup for the A-Body.. If this tank does have a good sump/bucket.. it could be the best thing to come along for us A-Body guys.. but as Pist0l said.. lets see the cut away.. Those prices are about's and from cheapest to most costly..

Most people who are using the B-Body tanks.. get them from 94-96.. one nice thing is to use a Racetronix pump and wire harness setup. I did, it worked great from my setup. They have a B-Body kit that will support the LSx.. Walbro 255 pump and a heavy duty wirng harness kit (relay and fuse).

Yea the b-body tank swap's only con is you have to cut the trunk floor, No biggie really if you have the equipment, angle grinder 4' and a 4' cut off wheel, BUT i must admit having a panel to get to the fuel pump........priceless...

agree.. I have a loose connector on my sender, it quit on me at the Good Guys last year.. I was able to open the panel, pull the sender and clean and reconnect the connector.. and I was up and running in about 45 min's..

I read this on your cardomain, or another thread (or both). Looks like a good plan. I'll probly copy you.

Thanks for that tip. Anything else?

This all sounds like some great ideas but i am also looking for the cheap way out and i am not cutting the trunk pan out. I was planning on just getting an after market tank for a little more than a $100 buck and getting an electric feul pump. If i am wrong please let me know. thanks

mucho props if you can get a aftermarket tank for around 100bucks, Plus lines, plus fuel pump, etc..... remember youre not really cutting enough trunk pan out to ruin strength or integrity, and if you make a clean cut, you can always weld it back in.And you dont have to cut it to use the tank but the tank will hang pretty low then. The plastic tanks are also compatible for E85 use, add 2-3gallon's more capacity, and rust proof. Im not downing your idea or beliefs just stating that the b-body fuel tank is a really great retrofit, and since youre "retrofitting" a LSX motor why not??

All i am getting for $100 bucks is the tank. I will have to get lines and pump. I havent got that far yet. just trying to find the best way to go. Without spinding alot. I just dont want to cut that new trunk pan that my body man just got in.

The tanks are made by a Canadian company, SPI, which makes a number of OEM and aftermarket parts for the auto industry. I found the tank at Paddock for around $595 also. You could contact SPI directly at http://www.spectrapremium.com to get some specs on the tank. The e-catalogue link is below. I posted a question about these tanks a few weeks ago and I didn't get any reponse and I was surprised that nobody had run across them yet. I would be interested in somebody's opinion of the quality and specs as I too don't want to cut the trunk or spend $1,200+.
