Obviously, but knowing the cars ins/outs will help better than nothing regardless.

"knowing" the 240 won't do anything for you when doing this swap. being a competent mechanic and fabricator is what you need .

do the rx7 it's plain sexy and it's been done enough to get good support. plus if you ever sell it it's worth serious cash

why not use a 240Z or a 280Z? lighter, cheaper, more room, and i'm biased, but better looking..

For a budget build you can do a 240z or any S13/S14 chassis. I'd go with the Fd RX just because I love that body and don't mind spending the extra cash. At the end you either have a 240 or a RX7. But I'm bias towards the FD since i'm in the process of that conversion

if you do a 240, just dont do a 97/98 because it will cost more. I personally own a fd3s (1993 r1 model) and I am not doing a swap to that. I am building my 97 240sx because I like it better. The car is just as light as the rx7, but I invested way more in suspension and it can outhandle the rx7. (at least mine can)

An LSx-T56 is a bolt in swap for the early Z cars. A common swap with a strong on line community. You can get kits that will allow an install in a couple of weekends, with no fab.

Do whatever you can get your hands on.
I'd go with the 300zx, anz Z for that matter, or the 240sx.
The FD rollers are just too expensive, you can get a working NA z32 or 240sx for $2500...

Hell, I REALY want to do a Datsun 240z or 260z ls1 swap.
I would pay some decent coin for something like that...

I'm new to the forums but i've been reading this post some great information has been posted. But someone stated that a RX7 is lighter than a 240sx. In all honestly it is not entirely true. a 93 base rx7 weights 2789lbs and the curb weight for a 1995 240sx se is 2753lbs. In all honest not a huge difference. Now i've gone to a few different sites all have varied by a few lbs here and there. But both have great weight distribution. Now when it comes to looks they both have great appearance factors. But I think the RX7 has the best. Especially since its such a rare car you just dont see them on the road any more so its quite different. But price wise a 240sx is cheaper to come by for a rolling chassis or a replacement if you wreck yours. Also i do have a question what is the avg. mpg. for this type of swap in a 240 or rx7? Anyways, lots of choice just have to find the right one for you. I like many am still pondering which route to go. I look forward to posting more on this site.

With a T56 crusing in 6th gear you're going to see great gas mileage. I think its in the 25+mpgs. Not bad for a 400hp LS2.
