I was kidding about the dollar thing, but I am not gonna spend 5-6 g's only for folks to think I left in in primer. I have seen flat black cars at SEMA and they are cool.

Okay so how are folks handling the fuel side, external pumps to a sump metal tank?

For your fuel pump I suggest this:

http://www.tanksinc.com/index.cfm/pa...rod/prd119.htm

That tank will accept one of their in-tank high pressure pumps. Plus the tank is baffled. I am very happy with mine, it has worked well for over two years and 7k miles. Nice and quiet, plenty of pressure and volume.

03-04 cobra motor bone stock with the 6 speed. That will keep it Ford, give you the power you want, double overdrive for cruising/fuel & the blower whine will make it unique.

No interest in keeping it Ford, if I swap out the SBC crate engine it will be for a cammin' LS- engine, I like working on them.

Yes, my complete tank and pump set up is from Tanks Inc. I am using a Corvette regulator/filter right outside the tank, then a single line foreward to the engine. The Tanks Inc in-tank pump is set up for the return line. I just used high pressure FI hose and clamps to connect the pump to the regulator. If you buy the tank and pump together they will cut you a discount, at least they did when I bought mine. Together I think they were right at $400.

I like the ford idea, i am really not into swapping chevys into fords...but if you do, make it a carbed lsx motor with the trex and flame throwers...Though the ls1 will look really small in a big car like that...

Default Lead Sleds are Cool!

Kool Project, I think the bumpers have to go as well. I am also running a Tanks Inc fuel setup in my 48 Chevy. I have another rig that I went through last year, orginally I was going to do a quick paint and interior and unload it but by the time the body guy got to it I was well in to it, including putting an aluminum head and duel carbs, duel exhaust on a Flathead. I had a buyer for it and the deal fell through just after I picked up the 48, If I keep the car I think I will be going the way of the newer Hemi setup, currently I need to sell to help finance the 48.

If it were mine and didn't want it fast/expensive I'd throw in a 6.0 4l80e. Maybe even 5.3 4l60e if I was being real cheap. Slap some sort of flame thrower kit that doesn't wash the cylinders and then do a decent paint job and get some decent pin striping.

I don't see any reason on running a carbed engine without overdrive when the junkyards are full of low buck gm truck drivetrains that will be cheaper/nicer/better in the long run. Plus that YOU like working on them.

If you want to go different go diesel.
Big ole led sled would role out with a 6.6 duramax with an allison in it. Tons of room underhood so it should fit I would say. Bit more pricey though because it would need better drive train stuff for sure plus those things aren't cheap.

Yup I have been thinking truck takeout too.

No way the car will get a Ford engine, it has a SBC and it has a later model GM frame under the car too...

Okay now why not an external fuel pump? And Stu how does the fuel gauge work on your car?

Interal fuel pumps get the added cooling effect of the fuel, and quieter! Tanks inc does not sell fuel senders with there units. VDO and others make units to fit these tanks and you match up to your guage, 90, 230 ohm etc.

External Fuel pump? Every one I have heard has been quite noisy. The intank pumps are muffled by the tank and the fuel. You can hear mine, but you really have to listen hard and not at all if the car is running. They are also cooled by the fuel. I figure if they are the preferred solution for the OEMs there must be a reason.

You can get a sending unit from the Gauge vendor. Mine is an aftermarket Dolphin gauge and sender. The sending unit port is industry standard I believe. I think their EFI tank has another opening for the pump to go into. Give them a call for details.

With the Tank pump and setup.. you can also keep you existing tanks fuel gauge/sender if you offset the new Tanks pump/pickup to one side of the tank and avoid the stock sender. then plug/use the line as you might or might not need (vent, return, etc). Just a option. Or as some have said.. use a after market sender and gauge.

I was lucky, the 95 impala tank that I used for my Chevelle has the same ohm range as the stock Chevelle gauge, so that worked out great for my project.

Just something to consider in you plan and part collecting. You might be able to mix and match Stock OEM parts with new aftermarket parts..

Externals are noisy when bolted to the frame. Ford trucks had external pumps for many years. Big bosch sized thing in a rubber mount. I used a 300x bracket for awhile that was really rubbery. You could twist it 45 degrees.

The Cobra merc or the American Graffitti deep red one are my favorites. Dumb hood scoop on the Cobra though.

LOL if you want these (1937 Desoto style?) bumpers stop by my man, free!!!!!!

Yeah I run two externals in the Formula, I can hear them a bit, but nothing like a Weldon which I had before that and folks could hear that pump before they would see my car coming down the street.
