The HAMB these days is ultra-trad, no rat rod content anywhere. I've learned a lot from guys on that site about old vs. new looks etc.
Yeah I didn't hear good things about Coker, so passed.

Okay, time to get more serious about this swap stuff, I did after all create this forum 11 years ago. ![Happy](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_stretch.gif)
Here is a nice pic of the car the last time I drove it, New Years Eve:
![](http://i638.photobucket.com/albums/uu101/ProStockJohn/1951%20Mercury%20Project%20Mercula/IMAG0207.jpg)
So, I've got the following combo:
-70's GM frame
-SBC, carbed, long tube headers
-Mechanical block-mounted fuel pump
-TH350
-AC
Goal: I want to swap in just a carbed LS3/L92/LY6, keeping the current trans.
Questions:
-Any particular long tube headers that fit like a 77-85 Caprice?
-Which accessory/bracket setup takes up the least room between the engine and radiator for a GM car like that?
-Does a carb setup need a MAP sensor?
-I'm thinking a 670 cfm carb would be enough for a stock LS3?
-Anyone know the general dimensional differences between an LS engine and a SBC?
Some pics from the summer:

I'm a little nervous about room for the efan, accessories and radiator?

This should help it was one of the first things I ask too when I started my swap and BCZEE was kind enough to help out a greenhorn.

Use the vette accessories to get the mst clearance up front. You can get the Kwik a/c brackets, since you already have a Sanden compressor, and you won't have to have new hoses made. It lookes like you may have to run a really slim cooling fan. A map sensor isn't required for a carb setup, but it will help your cruising economy if you use one. Remember to get the MSD box to control timing, not the Edelbrock box. I would go with a bigger carb than a 670 with an LS3. Most people end up running a 750 with an LS1.

Thanks for the info, greatly appreciated.
I can take better pics to show my concerns. One of the front but the other is the steering shaft. I figure the latter will be okay as I'm already running long tube headers.
I'm running a slim efan up front, the slimmest I could find, I think it's 2&5/8. I'd have to upgrade the radiator I think, we think it's from a 4 cylinder Pinto.
Just thought of another question, if I order a custom radiator, how are folks configuring the inlet and outlet of the rad?

I have been researching for a few months, and have learned quite a bit. I am actively scouting for a long block. As I wish to limit the scope of the project, I plan to keep the TH350 for now. So I will assume to set the motor back 1" to keep the trans in the stock location. That should give me much more room up front. My biggest fear is the radiator and cooling system. So I am going to measure again this weekend to finally decide what size I think will fit in this engine compartment.
We have had crazy weather here, this was a month ago:
