When I first opened the hood on my old sedan (about four years ago) for a gathered bunch of old school hot rodders (at the donut shop)..........they all stood around slack-jawed. Finally one old veteran volunteered..."looks like some kind of a helicopter motor!"

i just tell people its a 5.3 from a 2000 silverado. Doesn't sound to special but the people who understand think its cool, those who dont just think its a lame truck motor....whatever.
small block? well mine isnt in yet, so i havent had to deal with this -YET 
so i guess i better work on my reply back in the 80's i had a R/S 69 z28 that had a oval port 427 in it, and one night i had some guys ask what size valves it had- I replied 2.06-1.72- then stupified, I told them it was a small block with JC Whitney valve cover adapters on it - is why it had BB valve covers on it yep alwasy been a smart ***. My car will have a '04 Vette gen 3 LS6 the new and improved small block

There are guys that just have no clue, there are also idiots that dont have a clue and try to make like they do. A new Fedex guy drop[ed off some stuff the other day and looks at my 48 coupe and says nice 57 chevy, I looked at him and told him that he really just insulted me, because of the popularity of the 57 chevy almost everyone knows what they look like and my 48 Chevy Coupe looks nothing like one and if he really doesn't have a clue he should just say thats a nice looking car than to say something it isnt and end up insulting someone as well as looking like an ***. He left rather quickly!
i didnt put my jeep in a truck show because if i had the hood open people still wouldnt understand whats soo special about it. now if i had corvette fuel rail covers everyone would crowd around
