Default how do you explain ls1?

ive been in a few discussions or had ppl look at my car and ask me what motor it has, i tell them it has an ls1, i get puzzled looks alot, what do i tell them? i usually say things like roller cam, aluminum block/heads, coil per cylinder, fuel injected, but they still think its just a first gen sbc.

im sure alot of you with swapped motors get ppl who do the same thing, right? are they just idiots who cant be helped?

I just tell them it's Chevys, all aluminum, 15 degree head, 6 bolt main small block. If it's a potential race, it's a stock 350

I find tell them it's a late model vette motor works well. But as LS1 Coupe said, if they don't understand the term LS1, they probably aren't worth talking to.

+1 I always just say it is a Corvette engine. Even though it isn't, if I say ls1 or ls2 I just get blank looks.

I get a lot of those puzzled looks and questions all othe time..
Due to my custom Cowl Induction / CAI system that I designed and built.. They 1st think it is a Carb motor, then questions about the tubing coming out of the Air Box.. then is the tubing for Turbo?... then ask they about the Coil's... and on and on and on.... I finally just wrote up a sign and leave it on the top of the Air box at car shows so that I can walk around (Just got a 2nd place for 69-75 Cars Sunday, I was suprised!)

I just tell them it is a Gen III LS1 engine out of a 99' Z28 with a custom Air Cleaner.. But there are always a lot of question for a motor that never came with or has not been swapped into any older car yet.

If you put Corvette ciol covers on it people just assume its a Corvette motor, and I just usually let them believe that. But the best comment I get is when the hood isn't even open, I took off the 350 badges on the front fenders and replaced them with homemade 346 badges, and on several occasions had people ask me if it still has the original 346 in it, or "I had a buddy that used to have a 346". I think that some get confused with 396, the rest I think are probably just morons!

Since I have one in my fox, I get alot of "what year mod motor is that?" even though it clearly looks like a pushrod engine. I also use the old "it's a corvette engine w/ Z06 heads" and they usually still have glazed over eyes so I usually just walk away.

I have the Corvette fuel rail covers on mine, so people usually say, "wow, you have a corvette motor in there", and I usually say "Yeah, how do you like the new distributor?" Then, they are really confused. My buddy just looks at me like I'm a jagoff.

You're still having to explain what an LS1 is? These can't be car guys. I mean, even the dirt track and demo derby guys know all about LS1's, even if they only use old school stuff. They may not know the ins and outs (like coil-on-plug, etc), but they know it's the "new ****" and puts out impressive power in stock form.

If I want to have fun with someone I sense will buy it, I tell them it is an experimental Studebaker motor. My fuel rail covers do say Studebaker on them. We do a Satuday night cruise at the local IHOP and get a fair number of curious folks who are not car people. A lot of people don't have a clue what kind of car mine is, let alone what the motor might be. If the question is from a Studebaker lover, I tell them it is an R6 (Studebaker's hipo motors were the R1 through R4).

If I sense the asker is a "civilian" I'll say it is a late model Corvette motor. If it's an old school hot rodder that just has not caught up yet, I explain a little more. I try to be nice and explain as much as I can to folks because I like to get more folks interested in the car hobby.
