S&P compressor and bracket kit for sale
1) the S&P kit eliminates the spring loaded tensioner and instead uses a tie rod with heim joints to statically tension the serpentine belt. I have a hard-on for spring loaded tensioners, and a religious objection to using heim joints for anything on a street car. If I had known this beforehand, I never would have ordered it.
2) too dang shiny for my tastes. I put split tubing over my Lokar throttle cable because it was too shiny, and every thing else under the hood is flat black or cast aluminum.
I'm going to use a Kwikperf bracket kit instead, with an off-the-shelf compressor from Arizona Mobile Air.
It comes with a polished SD5H14--that's the R134a replacement for the old SD508. It's Sanden list #S6669 (Omega 20-10075), vertical fittings, 12V PV7 clutch. All the SD5H14 have identical mounting dimensions. The S&P catalog shows it has "AN8 and AN10" fittings, but according to the Omega catalog, S6669 should have #8 O-ring and #10 O-ring, which is what the 135deg fittings in the VA kit are for. I haven't uncapped it to confirm which fittings are there. Actually, the cylinder head definately has O-ring fittings, the only question is whether there are flare adapters pushed (pressed?) into the ports. If it's got flare adapters, you should be able to remove them. And if you want to run braided stainless lines instead of the VA rubber hoses, you'll probably still want to remove them and use the Aeroquip AC O-ring fittings instead of normal AN flare.
I had the same thought as you concerning the 'bling' and lack of tensioner, not interested for my Nova. I have the KWiK brackets on mine and can hardly wait to start it up. They are nice.
