68 Lemans LS1 T56 swap

I think it could do 12s with a drag radial. I didn't build it for dragging. The closest 1/4 mile is 125 miles. I was launching at idle to keep the tires from spinning my 60ft times were awful. I was upsetting some local drag car guys I was pitted beside. I was running faster than their dedicated Gasser. And beating a couple Corvettes. I drove 125 miles there. Raced 14 times and drove 125 miles home. All on the same tires same tank of gas. It was a huge win. First time I've raced 1/4 Mile And first time for the car too

I keep this thread going year after year. I miss getting emails and updates on this forum. I've joined several Facebook groups focusing on protouring and Pontiac and have helped several guys out. What shocks me is none of them use ls1tech or any forum for research. They can get instant info from the members but in a week that info is buried. They say forums are dead. But I think this is the greatest one. Truth is everyone has been nothing but supportive. On the Facebook groups others and myself are drug through the mud about using a non pontiac engine in a Pontiac.
Anyway an update would be great.
My autocross highlight video from this year. I feel I did pretty well my first year. I have learned a lot but still have alot to learn. That being said it's the most fun I've had in my car and I won the points series in my class this year!!!
Now I'm hooked for sure.
I have a few upgrades for this winter i want to install an improved racing oil trap baffle. I have been pulling a little over 1.0 G and don't want to worry about oil starvation. A friend lost a Buick engine and another lost 2 LS engines. So I have to pull the engine back out. Maybe with the transmission too.
Since it will be all apart. On Black Friday I found 125 bucks off all monster clutch kits. I bought a monster stage 2 kit.
I bought a used turn one power steering pump. My factory one likes to push fluid out of the cap during autocross. This pump should reduce hp loss and reduce fluid temp.
I also bought a Holley swap cross member. I hope it keeps my drive line angles correct and doesn't interfear with my exhaust.
I bought Currie Johnny joints for the center upper mounts of the 9 inch
Last on the list is I feel I need to upgrade my spindles and wheel bearings. The factory bearings are being pushed to their limits on the autocross track. The AFX Spindle I've always thought was over kill and over priced for my setup but I'm changing my mind. I really would like to have a stronger spindle and bearing setup.
Happy New year

You just have to remind them that you prefer NOT to use a comparative boat anchor of an engine.... lol

Just took some time to walk thru the thread. LOVE the car. Especially how civil and reliable you've set it up to be. I can relate a bit to what happens when you put a motor like these into something unexpected. As far as I'm concerned, anyone who don't get it don't matter.

My thought was to make this car the way it should have been made. Disc brakes, better suspension, overdrive, injection, air conditioning. The cars came with good power but they couldn't HANDLE it. Pun intended. It might not be perfect at one thing but i wanted it to be able to do everything and stay together with me beating on it. To be bullet proof and drive home.

Hey, it's what they're stuck with. As long as they race each other it's boat anchor vs. boat anchor. Haters gonna hate....
Keep reminding them that Canadian Ponchos all came with Chevy engines. The winters are brutal, and they needed to be able to depend on their cars...

You're not the only one getting hate. I just bought my 68 lemans and finally just sold the Pontiac motor. Already getting crap for that. Can only imagine what's gonna happen when I can get into my project. Of course I finally buy my dream car and I have to wait because I'm getting married . Love the car and I'm glad to see another Ls Pontiac.

There's a way to keep the hate level low; DON'T TELL THEM! That way when the car is done and they get their butt kicked into next week, they won't know what hit them...

Most people on facebook are morons, but that's because it lacks the selection bias inherent in forum membership. What I mean is that everyone is already on facebook and joining a group is just a click away. Joining a forum and searching for answers takes more work than most of them are willing to put in, and their laziness is why every group is spammed with the same stupid questions day after day after day and/or filled with posts that start "I know this isn't chevelle/ls/pro-touring/whateverthegroupisabout related, but...derp". Those are the last people whose opinions should matter.

I just finished my 1964 GTO build. When it came to the motor I put up a Facebook poll to see what everyone felt I should do for power and the Poncho tripower won out. I built the car to flip it so I listened to the comments since I wanted to appeal to the larger crowd, but if it was mine to keep that boat anchor would have never been put back into the car. My LS chevelle will literally run circles around this old school anchor.

The new one this week is. The LS is a belly button engine..everyone has one...
Their points are so exaggerated. I've heard 500ftlbs on pump gas. The only good Pontiac engine I've seen is a butler performance engine with zero factory parts in it. I sold my 350 to a guy that wanted to budget stroke it so he could stay with little LS. Once he gets it back from the machine shop he'll have more in the block than what you can buy 2-3 5.3 for.
