Default first gen camaro question

i installed my power steering box from a 90 z28. now my exhaust manifold hits the box. is the first gen camaro box smaller? i have two different sets of factory ls1 manifolds and they both hit the box?? my combo is a ls3 with 4l60e and a turbo 400 crossmember in a 67. anybody sell a shorty ls header? i am not a fan of long tube headers. also using adapter plates from summit and parts store motor mounts for a 67.

Some of the 3rd gen boxes have a lip on them that makes them 3/8" wider than the old box. It causes problems for bigblock guys too. Somewhere in this thread I'm pretty sure there was someone that said they ground it down for clearance: http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=103139

My stock camaro manifolds hit the manual steering box from a 1st gen camaro. I just went with the Hooker long tubes. I am running the ATS plates. Why no long tube headers? Mine are just about completely inside of my frame. If my car were to bottom out the crossmember and frame rail would hut before my headers would.

does anybody know if the frame mounts between the small and big block will raise the engine an inch or better for the first gen camaro? are there differences in thickness between motor mounts? i need to raise the engine about an inch and my setup will work.

i am trying to use factory manifolds because i have them and i like the factory look. i may have to use long tube headers. only if they tuck above the framerail.

Yep, there's lots of info on 1st gen frame brackets and engine mounts here: http://www.pozziracing.com/camaro_engine.htm
and here:
http://camaros.org/engine.shtml#EngineMounting

Reading all that is about as clear as mud for me...

Here's what I've been able to gather:

- the 69 302/350 frame brackets (short) and engine mounts (tall/narrow) will move the engine down about 1/4" and back some unspecified amount so that an 8" balancer will clear the sway bar.

- the big block frame brackets and engine mounts move the engine about 1" to the right for exhaust clearance to the steering box. The big block transmission crossmembers also move the transmission to the right.

You'll enjoy the extra 20 rwhp that longtubes give and the improved mpg. My 01 SS picked up almost 2mpg and 22 rwhp...that's what I call a win/win. Use the LT's .

i will try the later mounts first. i may end up using the headers. i agree with the hp gains but i am already at 430 with a factory tune with cats. i have the gm perf engine computer and harness. should be enough with the ls3. i have stepped up the 4l60e and the 12 bolt rear.
