Default Where is my VIN?

From what I've seen on here everyone says its on the drivers side by the bellhousing. Well, mine is not. Is the partial vin placed anywhere else on a 2003 engine.

Not sure about in the US.

But here in AUS. a VIN is a Vehicle Identification Number, Which is usually found on the cars chassis.

Someone correct me if It's a different story in the states.

I've only got the engine, never even saw the car it came from. So....

No, that's the typical usage up here as well. To the OP, I don't have much knowledge of 2003 engines, but I'm sure that someone will be able to give you the answer shortly...

That is where its supposed to be. Perhaps the block was decked and they machined it off or perhaps a service replacement or worse, theft and sanded off. Go for number 1 or 2.

I was afraid of #3, and its not number 1, hmmm... not good.
I think I'll check with the member i bought it from. Thanks, just making sure I'm not missing something obvious.

The should a laser etched number on the driver side just ahead of the bellhousing. It runs up and down. Not always easy to read. This is only a partial VIN but can be used to make a best guess at what it should be. Here is a link that will help you.

Here is another link

hope that helps

Are you guys sure that there is a vehicle identification number (VIN) stamped on the engine that corresponds to the VIN on the Dash?

I'm thinking the number on the engine block is a serial number that might somehow describe the engine, but not the vehicle.

To the best of my knowledge the infor on the block is the last 8 of the VIN. I thought you may be hunting it for pcm programming reasons.

I bought a crate LQ9. There was a laser etched number on it, but since it was never installed in a car, I just "assumed" that it was a S/N

I bought a crate LQ9. There was a laser etched number on heads, but since it was never installed in a car, I just "assumed" that it was a S/N.

The LS1 has a casting number of 12559378, 12560626, 12561168 (LS6 block)

Machined numbers might be something like: 12559379, 12560625 or 12561167

Not sure if this will help.

Your best bet would be to contact the person who sold you the engine and ask for a copy of the title of the vehicle that it was removed from.
