I've also seen converted 914s w/ 350 v8s sell for $7000, albeit, not the newer ls1 motor. If you want the 930 transaxle, yes, it starts getting pricey. But you won't build a sicker car with awesome braking, handling and acceleration for under $20k. Using an older 350 and 901 transaxle, you are at about $10k. If you want the excellent brembo brakes, those are $2000. But, the BMW 320i front calipers work pretty good after replacing the rear proportioning valve (I did that on another 914 that I have). BMW 320i calipers are about $65 from Pepboys. Depends what you want... A 2010 Ferrari killer or a 2010 mustang killer.

Here's what we're now autocrossing and part of the reason I'm here! We're looking to ditch the current engine for some LSx motor. This is a 355 SBC but it's an iron block, 11.1 comp, carb, and distributor. We'd like to use pump gas instead of race gas, with better and more consistent performance.

It's suppose to be a '69 Z28 block. I'm pretty sure the LSx bellhousing is a different bolt pattern? I believe we'll need to get a different adapter than we have now.

Actually no, they are the same pattern (missing a bolt or two). But there are some (lengthwise) spacing issues-and aftermarket fixes too.

A LSx will bolt right in with the correct adapter plates. Just need to figure out which oilpan and exhaust headers work best.
