gmpartsdirect.com for the parts.

11 quarts total if dry, that is new converter and empty trans.

and is this assuming that converter already has __quarts in it at installation time, or 11 quarts with converter dry? Is it possible to fill an empty converter while trans is installed, or to have the converter run dry without removing it completely?

11 qts is bone dry. An installer will usually put 1-2 qts in the converter before installation. You can not empty a converter once the trans is installed. Just start low and keep adding until you are full.

the converter will eventually fill up when the engine is running, it's good practice to fill the converter before installation...pour 8 quarts in the tranny and go from there...double check the proper procedure for checking fluid, overfilling it will ruin it in short order...good luck

and dude, i hope your not planning on trying to run this thing w/out a dipstick tube? if you dont have the tube installed you will never be able to fill it with enough fluid anyway.

if you have ever taken a trans out , you know when you pull that tube fluid goes everywhere (if its full) so you can fill it past that point anyway, without the tube.

check with your local trans shop, the 4l60e is a common trans and they will propably have a junktrans they can sell you a tube and stick off of for a few bucks or check the junkyard and if you have to it cant be that expensive from the dealer. there are some corners you can cut but get the correct dipstick and you wont have to worry.

also the fluid level is what you need to be concerned with, not capacity. capacity can vary from pan to pan (i.e. truck pan, f bod pan, or aftermarket) i have a tci deep pan thats adds extra capacity but it still reeds full on the same spot on the dipstick. if the fluid level is higher than where it should be you will cause foaming (from internal parts moving through the fluid) and that faoming will burn up the trans. thats why level is important NOT capacity.

hope that helps
and im just learning how to rebuild trannies so if i have something wrong please correct me.

Im asking for the quantity cause I wana go buy them only... not because I want to fill up and move without a dipstick... and the biggest problem is that there are no 4l60e's in lebanon what so ever... NONE!!! so Im ordering this from Saudi Arabia... and no one answered my question yet.. do I have to take my tranny out again to fill the converter with oil b4 installing the tranny..? or can I just add oil and the converter will eventually fill up? thanks!

its a very good practice to fill the converter before install. if you do not prefill the TC you will be running it dry,

YOU CAN RUN IT WITHOUT PREFILLING, but you take a chance on the TC not lasting as long, not saying it will happen but it might.

it should take roughly 10-11 quarts from bone dry to fill it. that is assuming the TC is brand new

No I actually want something reliable... I really don't understand how it works inside, and will the TQ ever fill up? or will it always run dry?!

it will fill up, but on startup it will be dry inside, it would be worth the trouble to take it out and fill it up it were me, but you can get away with not filling it. if you do take it out and fill it, wiggle it around and stuff to get as much in there as possible. at least a quart at the bare minimum.
