Are those who are running carbed intakes and the 6010 MSD do you have the map sensor hooked up,? where do you put it on the intake,? and what part # do you recommend for the sensor? I did a search but most of the post I saw were related to injected motors. Thanks
I had to buy a separate MAP pigtail conenctor as the one the include fits only LS1 MAPs which i didnt have. The LT1/TPI MAP pigtail works fine you can buyu it on ebay. I got my MAP sensor from a Pontiat gran prix like a 2002. It really doesnt matter as long is it connects the MAD box lets you accept 1 2 or 3 bar map.

In my opinion, if you are talking about a street type engine, you definately need to run the map sensor. With the MSD 6010, this works basically the same, and takes the place of the vacuum advance on the old type distributors. If you are talking race motor, it probably won't be as important, since you have usually 0" of vacuum under full throttle conditions. Most carbs have small ports approximately 3/16" , usually 1 goes direct to manifold vacuum and 1 goes to above throttle blades which opens to manifold vacuum as the throttle is opened. this is called ported vacuum. I've seen posts on here recommending hooking to direct vacuum but I prefer hooking to the ported vacuum. I like to run more actual advance at idle and have the vacuum advance come in as the throttle is opened. Most auto makers used the ported vacuum back when they still had distributors, by the way. I have included a picture of the sensor I use with my MSD 6010. Just click on it to enlarge it and I think you can read the part number. It plugs right into the MSD harness. You should be able to get it from any GM parts house or you might try cross referencing the # at Autozone or O'Reilly. Anyway, there is a small port on the back of it, and you just run your 3/16" vacuum hose or whatever it is to the port on the carb you prefer and plug it in to the harness and you are in business. I'm a terrible speller when drinking.... I hooked my vaccum advance right to the 1/8" NPT port below the carburetor on the victor jr intake. It works fine. I took a piece of threaded 1/8" pipe and fitted a 5/16 line over it then routed it to my MAP sensor. I run 15 degrees of timing at idle with about 9 degrees of advance at idle. Still learning how to tune with a MAP sensor though.
Remember that the MAP sensor will read in PSI. With the engine off your MAP sensor will read 14.6psi or something. When its running it will read 8.6psi. 14.6-8.6 = 6psi. you have 6 psi vacuum which is roughly 12Hg vacuum.
