Default putting an ls2 on an 04 gto

hello everyone, im new here and i need your help. i have an 04 gto 6speed and i want to put in an automatic ls2 from a wrecked 06 gto. from what i can see the only difference is the throttle body. right now my mechanic and i are thinking about just swapping the intake/throttle body from the 04 so it keeps the cable. also, im planning on swapping the harness to use the harness from an automatic 04 gto. has anyone done anything similar or have any advice?
thanks

Look at the CKP (Crank Position Sensor) on the side of the block, under the Passenger side header. It should be right above the starter. If they are both the same color, then you are good. IIRC though the 04 GTOs used 24x crank reluctors and the 05-06 used 58x reluctors.

Yea, that should be the one electrical 'gotcha' if you keep the cable throtlle body.

Why not keep your 6 speed? It'll make the swap a lot easier and you can bang though the gears

all GTO's are 24x reluctor wheels, so that isn't a problem.

If you want to go automatic, you need to swap over all of the harnesses and the ECM/TCM from the 2006 car that are different. Going LS2/ 6 speed, would be a lot easier, since you could run it using your 2004 GTO pcm.

Too much trouble and a LOT of work.

You will have to swap over the intake, valley cover and knock sensors, wiring harness, reprogram the BCM (which when I have done it required having a connection to GMDealerworld with a Tech2 while programming), driveshaft will need to be a hybrid between the two cars, and if you have the time, just swap the pumpkins too as the '05-'06 models were stronger.

I'd strongly suggest going over to ls1gto.com and asking the same question in the tech forums.

For the cost and time that is involved, I'd just buy a forged long block and a rebuilt auto trans along with the '04 automatic wiring harness that you speak of getting. Make sure to get the trans controller too.

just buy an 05 goat, I've seen them go cheaper than ls1 trans ams.
