I think you should take a closer look, the 97 frame will be boxed in under the cab and the 85 will not. There were some slight changes made to the frames when they started putting the 4.3's in the truck, along with some minor changes to the firewall, witch doesn't require as much massaging as the earlier ones. 89 and up should all have the electronic speedometer

I'd like to swap my s10. Mine is a 93 tahoe 2wd (black qrille, painted bumpers)....2.8 v6 with a 5 speed. I'd like to swap in a stockish 5.3 efi and i'd like to maintain a 5 speed. I've read the s-10 t5's are kind of weak to back a v8, but a t56 would not be an option. I'd be plenty happy with 300 horses and a 5 speed in my old truck.
