how hard is it to replace a convertible top?

how hard is it to replace a convertible top? I need to put a new top on my Firebird. I called the local upholstery shop and its going to be $600 in labor alone! I found complete tops for $600 online.
How hard would it be to install the new top myself? I consider myself mechanically inclined. Also, are there any books or websites that I can look to for instructions?

I've done two myself and they're extremely easy...but a little tedious. A couple hours if you're alone. As I tell you guys a lot, check out Contemporary Corvette. I've purchased two tops from them off 01-02 cars and they're always great and anywhere between $250-400. Best part--->OEM.
It depends on what you're going to replace. There are some how-to's around with pictures that describe the process of replacing just the fabric.
I have only replaced the entire top for another fresh top, frame and all. Better off going this route IMO.
