I'd get the 'vert, but then I already have a 2000 NBM 'vert. 
The ragtop is so much better than T-tops, not to mention more convenient. Putting the top down takes about as long as opening the windows, unlike T-tops where you have to get out, take them out and stow them. I run with the top down much more than I'd have T-tops out in a T-top car, just because it's so quick.
Can't really argue about getting both, though. You would want another car, beater or not, so you don't rack up the miles too fast on the 'vert. So get both. You're not likely to find a decent beater for a lot less than the T-top car anyway. At least not one you'd like nearly as much.
