Default trunk question

I know that the trunks different in some aspects, but the trunk of a convertible and regular still look very similar.

Do you think this speaker box would fit in a covertible?

Based on my experience of putting a sub in my vert..... I would guess No. Are those speakers 10"? I just went with JohnnyB's sub and haven't looked back, been very happy with it.

No they will not. The box needs to be a narrow box that can fit between the trunk seals. So get a box specifically designed for the application you need.

Doesnt having a box in that location kind of defeat the purpose of having a vert? I think the stealth box for the side of the trunk is the best option for a vert. I think theres a company that makes a reverse box for the other side. I think theyre made for 10" also.

^^^ oh, I was under the impression that it still gives enough space for the top to be down.
I guess its good for NY winters since the top will be up 7-8 months and i can have my trunk back.

Which is the one you are talking about, reverse box for other side?

Here ya go. This link has both the drivers and passengers side subthump stealth boxes. If you mount the amp and stuff on the inside of the trunk like its pictured, you have almost your entire trunk and space for the top to drop. You can find those boxes on in the for sale sections sometimes too for cheaper than that site.

Just to clarify (I'm confused as well), the box I built for bdrussell does NOT interfere w/ dropping the top. The forward facing side is sloped just like the factory plastic divider and contains ports that funnel the bass wave from the back of the subs directly into the passenger compartment. It can be built for either 2 or 4 8" subs. Key advantage of my box is that it leaves all of the useable trunk space without leaving your spare tire in the garage. I also believe it's more efficient at getting bass into the passenger compartment than any box mounted in the trunk.

Ah ok. It really looked like that took up all of the top space. Good design though if it leaves it all open.

No, I am afraid that is all I have of it. The top works fine with it, really it uses up space that wasn't used for anything before it was installed. The size was perfect for the Boston's cube space requirements and left a space to mount the amp. I had to add some grill's though, the kids kept hitting the speakers with their stuff. All the other ideas guys had I lost the bottom half of the trunk, which as small as the trunk is.... was not a good idea.

I am happy with the sound, it is more the adequate with the top up, you lose some of the sound with the top down, but that would be true of any setup that is in the trunk. I bought some very good 8" subs and it sounds better than my olds with a single 10" in it.

Regarding the subthump, I thought they weren't making them for the verts anymore, and I use that space to store coats, blankets, etc. I did use it for my spare, till I discovered my space was no good.

And just to make sure yall are on the same page, most of the bass is lost when the top is down due to the top (glass) blocking the sound. No issues when up ...

I wouldn't say most, but alot, for example on a stock deck with the bass at even tone, or half way.... drop the top and I usually bump it up about another 1/4 to get the same amount of bass.

The other thing I have a stock monsoon system with an amp added for the sub, so I would guess a better head unit would help the system. At one time I was going to do that, but the money went to buying a decent house....

Yep. Here's a link to some measurements I took. Putting the top down drops the output below ~100Hz about 10-12 dB. But I'd expect similar results w/ any trunk-located sub.

Heres a good deal on a 10" and 12" stealth box in the for sale. Just incase youre still interested in that route.

This 'd be an ideal box for the convertible fbodies as far as keeping the trunk and the spare tire area goes.

Any chance this box could be modified to fit a 10" sub, as in if the face of sub was extended more to the outside and also what kind of green, for having this box made.

Agreed, thanks for posting the pictures you had. This definitely brings another option to the table.

Wow! that is a good deal.

Thank you for looking that up and posting, but that will get rid of spare tire. Which is a bad thing for a DD car.

I think i 'll go bdrussel's route.

I've looked into a standard-depth 10" years ago, it sticks out too much into the trunk and blocks access to the bottom, not worth it IMO. Please PM me for more info.

Nice setup. Only problem is that the spare tire is trapped.
