What is the best/cheapest way to repair a 2" long tear in a convertible top? I am in Nashville. Who would do this type of repair? Do they try to sew it up or is it some type of iro-on patch like you used to put on blue jeans?

An iron-on patch (available from any fabric store) applied from the inside will work, I've done that before on my '70 Cutlass. It isn't exactly pretty (moreso than duct-tape though ), but it's better than nothing. Depending on where the tear is at, you might have to borrow your g/f's curling iron to get the heat to it.

You shouldnt patch the top. It wont last. There is so much pressure from lowering and raising it so you would go through many patches and it isnt worth the hassle. The best thing to do is get a new one and replace it. If you have any questions let me know.
