gap between vert top and window
gap between vert top and window On my drivers side window, when the window is fully up, there is a gap between the window and the weather stripping. It's not the whole window, just the rear of the window, and the gap is anywhere from 1/16 to 1/8 of an inch. How can I fix this?
It is "probably" just glass alignment and is a rather touchy thing. The problem is, especially on a vert - you are dealing with how a bunch of different parts / assemblies fit together. If it is bad enough to cause a leak then you probably need to go to a shop or have a knowledgeable buddy help you. It's not really something you just want to tweak around with w/o knowing what is up.
Some of the simpler things it could be are:
- bad weatherstripping - too compressed, rubber can take a "set" over time.
- bent bow pad - part of the top, bend it back
- door striker - does the door line up right when closed?
- glass felt - there are two small pads felt pads on metal plates that support the glass from the inside. You can see them under the inside strip but need to pull the door panel to get to them. They can be worn or out of adjustment.
- split door - sometimes the bonded panels seperate on our doors. $$$.
After all of that there is the alignment of the glass controlled by the door window hardware. Not simple stuff in there if you don't know what you are doing.
