Power antenna
Power antenna I've followed the walkthru here http://www.geocities.com/mdw9965/power-antenna.htm
Everything did not go as easy as it looked. I got a used GM antenna from a 2001 firebird so I thought it would be a simple install but heres is what happened:
1st major problem is that the bracket is too short to reach the original mounting screw. I dont get it shouldnt the firebird be the same as the camaro in this aspect? Or does it not fit because its another convertible issue?
2nd major problem is that once all wires were connected and the car turned on, the antenna went up but didnt get all the way to the top. Only like 7/8ths of the way. Now it wont come down at all. Even when the car is turned off. It only makes a clicking noise when you connect the power wire now. It doesnt make any sound of the motor moving when you connect or disconnect the power or the antenna lead.
Any ideas or should I just go and swap the part I have for another used one? The guy I got it from was really cool and has a shop locally.. so if I cant figure out how to fix it, I'll just ask if I can swap it for another used one.

That antenna is burned up. Not all brackets are the same on the cars, it does not have to be a convertible to be different. However, you can make them work. Adjust the antenna to where the bracket will meet the spare tire anchor hoop, bending the antenna bracket as necessary. Line it up straight, mark the hole to be drilled with a spring punch, drill it, run a thread cutting screw in it. Keep in mind the antenna shaft sits straight in the grommet, it should not be to one side or the other too much.

Verdad Gallardo Well I got it to work. The harness I had for it had the wrong color wires and I had the lead in the wrong spot. Wired it up and put a switch in the dash for the antenna lead. Now I can cruise with the antenna down and the cd player playing. Just need to fab up a bracket and Im set. The drain tube on firebirds is drilled right into the side of the spare tire well. I dont want to drill into it, so I'll just extend it to reach the bottom of the well where there is already a hole for water to drain out.
