Question What do you use for support?

so im just finishing up doing heads/cam/LTs/EWP, etc etc etc.. basically, more bolt ons (had full exhaust, intake to TB, pulleys. everything else was stock).. i dont plan on doing anything too stressful like going to the track or really flogging it until after some subframe connectors, but im wondering what else you guys would recommend? i dont wanna run a roll bar all the time (unless there are some that actually look decent.. i know the ones without any structural support look okay, but idk)

i wouldnt be worried, except that right now my car is on 3 jack stands, not four, and the top doesnt come down totally straight.. which leads me to believe that the frame is already slightly tweaked..

thanks for any info

make sure when you get the SFC's on, that the frame is straight and true.

how might one accomplish that? just jack up whichever corners i need to to straighten it out?

im thinking ill get bolt ons and weld them (since with just weld ons it might not be straight, and i want the added strength of the welds)

When I put SFC on I used four jack stands, one under each corner of the car supporting the frame. I do have some body twist too, as my driver fender to door has a nice gap...

SFC, strut tower brace, and drive shaft loop (just use the brace) are about it unless you get a cage or have custom work done.

NHRA rules state that in a convertible vehicle, if you run 13.99 or faster, you must have a cage!!! check out www.wolferacecraft.com for cages.

Depends on the track. I've been kicked off 2 NHRA tracks for no cage (before I had one in my 99)

id go with a cage if they werent so expensive..

and really, i wouldnt be so opposed to one, but theyre usually an eye sore, and i dont know how much ill be running at the track (i dont think itll be enough to warrant a roll bar)

I dont know where you race at, but in NC they enforce it, as well as in Epping NH (IHRA). Guess it all depends where you go......

Irish- What head/cam setup did you go with? I would just get the wolf 4 or 6pt setup. I plan on getting the 6pt weld in roll bar as soon as I get some $$.

I heard they changed that rule due to the fact that you would need to put a cage in a bone stock vette or viper, or similar car. It was changed down to 11.49. I read it was because the cars nowadays are so much safer from the factory then when those rules were first written.

Well I believe that in a convertible, a roll cage is about the best FIRST mod you can do!

Its just so much safer!

Can anyone verify that?

NHRA FAQ's from their site
When do I need a roll bar or roll cage, and what should it look like?
A roll bar is required in any convertible running 13.49 seconds or quicker in the quarter mile, and in other cars beginning at 11.49. The roll bar is accepted in vehicles running as quick as 10.00 second e.t., provided the stock firewall and floorboard is intact, other than for installation of wheel tubs.
